Found a new reason to snipe......

Power outages!
Lost it at 2 AM today as a windstorm came through Seattle. Still out.
My alarm system awoke me at 2AM to let me know the power was out, at 3:30AM to let me know the backup battery was low and 4:30AM to let me know the backup battery was dead.

Sniping service, that is.........and the phone hot spot is just too slow......
Can you clarify that a bit?
Why not just use the mobile app? No hot spot necessary.
A friend tweeted after power was restored. Cell service was also out. He reported power was out for 10 hours for him.
Power out for 10 hours. No cell service. It’s the apocalypse!!!
snipes can't beat the bidders that give sellers offers to close auction and do BIN, and the sellers do it
Ouch. That would be painful!
Hey Lakes,
The next home I build will have a generator fed from a buried LP tank.
Will miss you at FUN!

Nic:
Thanks! Sorry to be missing FUN - it's been a while since I've missed it.
The generator I have covers the kitchen and the master bath but not the remainder of the house, including the modem (which may be down independently). Nice to have 1 of the 2 furnaces running.
I've not had much luck with the mobile app and wouldn't trust it for a last second bid.
I use a (free) online sniping service that bids in the last 15 seconds.
So I don't have to do it by hand at a possibly difficult hour.
It's also unaffected by power outages local to me. (Could be affected by a power outage in its area, though).
We got hit with that outage. Wife kicked me out of bed to stoke the woodstove
Sniping is great for a lot of things but especially for those auctions that end in the morning or like our service that is out a lot.

Years ago you could do a search by bidder. The idea that someone could just type in your username and effectively steal your search efforts was just one more reason to snipe.
I recall those days - I would type in my favorite dealers handle and see what they were bidding on.
Cheater!
Years ago you could also post feedback for a seller even if you never bought from them.
About a year and a half ago we lost power for three days. The stand by generator was a godsend. Had to drive 15 miles to town if you wanted internet for those three days.

Gixen is your friend!
When I lived in the Seattle area (20 years) I had a couple of power outages...Put in a generator after the first one....only had one minor outage after that...Still, it was a good investment, and did the job when needed. Cheers, RickO
Update Tweet from my Seattle area friend
31 hours without power. "Computer. What is the size of the apocalypse?"
"The apocalypse is a spheroid region, 705 meters in diameter."
Yep - we are still out. Went to Costco yesterday and bought $103 in gas - ready for the long haul!
PS - Agree on Gixen and Gixon Mirror - snipes from 2 very different geographic regions to avoid outages as much as possible.
Good luck surviving! Both with the gas and the snipes!
For what it's worth, I've had great experience sniping with the mobile app. I even sniped something on the mobile app while we were minting with Dan!
