Tools you’ll need

crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,071 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just in case your house burns down and you’re collection is kinda melted together then here’s some information you might be able to use. Yes, the tools you’ll need to get your slabs outta the boxes. Better yet here’s a couple of pics :) Please pay no attention to my rusted destroyed tools. It’s all I have to work with. This isn’t even half of my collection.
As a footnote you can also use a VERY loyal rat terrier to chew through those suckers :)
My best friend in the whole world, Buddy.
Happy New Years to pcgs and everyone here in this great forum.
I wish you all the best, Joe

So sad to see this Joe. What's in the buckets? Silver?

What coin was you favorite? Is it ok?

    Ouch. :(

Have you sent your Buffalo's to PCGS yet?

  • crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,071 ✭✭✭✭✭

My favorite coin is actually in a NGC holder. It’s my 1921 buffalo nickel I bought from my good friend, Andy , at Angel Dee’s. But as you might guess it’s also melted and I can’t see it. It’s this coin....
This 28-d is also in the mix.i
    s also in t

    Only time’ll tell.

    Good work.
It looks like some of the slabs are fairly intact,
while some others are curved and joined together.
No need for any 'baking' so far!

Joe, certainly 2019 will be a better year for you. Your loss of many great coins in 2018 is not only your loss but a loss for collectors in the future. Your great pictures establish the significance of your herd and your great herd of Buffs may never be replicated.

While you may never be able to replace your loss, you have a great eye for great coins and we all look forward to your new acquisitions.

Oh, man. I'm so sorry to see this. Since you're talking about the salvage operation can we at least infer the people and pet(s) are OK? I hope so. What a way to end the year. Good luck ...

You are making progress. I see much hope in the twisted slabs, your old safe did a decent job.

Thanks for the update. I look forward to hearing positive results about the slab replacement. That would be a great start to a new year.

Happy New Years Joe! Only positive from this point forwards.
I can't wait to see what PCGS does to those slabs. When they get fixed in new holders, it'll make you feel so much better. It will certainly be a fantastic start to 2019. It's gonna be a great year for you.

    Later, Paul.

One of my credos I always think of to get by, "it always could be worse", you were spared and have your health, and not all of your coins were lost, not sure all of us could have handled this as well as you, hang in there and here's to a better and happy New year

    Hey Joe:
This may sound crazy, and I mean this in the best possible way. Before you send them off, how about an Auction "Survivors from the Ca. Campfire fire" These could be a treasure and a monument to the Indomitable will of the American peoples desire to survive.. Your positive attitude reminds me of a story about a shoe salesperson sent to a third party country. After a few weeks, he sent an email home " Send me a return Ticket right away, no one here has shoes. Another salesperson was sent in his stead. After a few weeks he also sent an email, " Send more shoes, no one here has shoes."
Keep the faith buddy, We're all rooting for you

Joe, you and your family (and the pup) are an inspiration. While I can't speak for others here, but I'm sure I do, your circumstances have made me realize that anything I'm dealing with is trivial by comparison. I can only hope to be half as strong as you are if something half as impactful ever happens to me. You really are an inspiration and I hope only the BEST in 2019 for you and yours,,,, I look forward to finally meeting you after these many years at FUN!

Joe, you and your family have been in my thoughts lately. It's truly a blessing that all of your family and furbies got out safely, and you have so many friends to help you through this. I wish you and your family a much happier New Year. If you get a chance, please stop by my table at FUN (1025) so I can give you a great big hug! <3
