1955 DD vs 1955 Double Struck. Rarity vs Popularity vs Price

As an Error Collector / Dealer, I have never owed a 1955 DD because while I like the coin , for me, the price vs rarity does not make sense. Throw in popularity and now it makes sense.
I just bought this 1955 (yes I know it is a D) that is double struck. I believe this coin to be way rarer than the very popular 1955 DD. I bought this coin for a fraction of the price of a 1955, This is where it no longer makes sense to me. My much rare coin with a major mechanical error is worth so much less than the much more common 1955 DD. I will stick with the major mechanical errors and keep away from the double dies.

Great coin but apples and oranges as you suggest.
EOC, I see your point but some coins are more Famous than rare. The 55DD is just that and that is likely where most of the price comes from. The 55DD has reduculous naked eye doubling and from die making process that has its own following. A double struck coin, although unique is a flaw/ glitch from the die using process that’s a whole other ball game.
I was going to write something but like yours better.
FWIW, I personally find the 55 DDO more appealing than the the double struck above.
That you have found your niche in the coin collecting world is great; but I suspect that there are fewer buyers for a double struck error vs a super cool visible to the naked eye double die coin like the 55/55. I'd much rather park my cash into the 55/55 with wide appeal than into an error with (what I think is) a thin shallow following, but that's just me.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
+1
that is one coin you will not see once in every aisle at any decent show. Your coin is pretty unique and has good eye appeal
rarity vs. demand.....
I feel the same about the 55DDO as I can buy one of the 30,000+ examples every hour of the day.
So this tickled my fancy a lot more many years ago...
The Only Known Wheat Proof Double Struck Mint Error
The following and pics are borrowed from www.MintErrorNews.com

1955 PROOF Lincoln Cent "Wheat Ears"
Double Struck
ANACS PROOF 64 RED
All major proof errors are extremely rare. This is a unique and spectacular rarity. It is the only known PROOF double struck Lincoln Cent with the "wheat ears" reverse. Coincidentally it has the magic date of 1955 which is the date of the world famous double die. This piece has a slight rotation between both strikes. It is in gem brilliant proof condition.
The '55 DDO is poster child for error coins... and it truly is the fame that makes it so pricey. Cheers, RickO
That double struck is a killer example!
