USPS package intercept

I filed a usps package intercept a few days ago before the parcel arrived at its state of destination. I got an alert today that they were unable to intercept it because it was at the post office so no charge; otherwise the charge was around $13. Have others used this effectively?

Did it have a delivery confirmation number? If so, it should work. If there is a package intercept, when the package is scanned, it pops up on the scanner to intercept and not deliver. I'd ask for an explanation.
It is something I would not depend on.
Especially during the Christmas shipping rush!
It's works about 50% of the time with USPS.

Never tried that option....did not even realize it existed. I can imagine the occasional need for such a service. Cheers, RickO
Yup. I've used it a couple of times flawlessly. In each case the package made it to the delivering station before it was turned around.
If you do it one to two days before delivery, it's probably already tied up in the UPS SurePost system. This is around 10% average UPS daily volume. Essentially the USPS uses UPS equipment and facilities for your small mailers/boxes. These bags are then loaded up in postal bags and brought to the distribution center, or local PO. People take these large bags of Smalls and scan them in at the center. So two or three days before arrival, your USPS can be catching UPS scans, but an intercept won't work since it's already there or slated to be there.
Yes but best to file it over the phone for quicker action and you have to stay on top of tracking with follow up phone calls. Works best with registered mail.

Does it help to call the PO where it's going to be delivered?
Used it once. It worked.
That must be a pain in the butt.
I filed one for a registered package that ran across the country, and once it hit the destination post office, they returned it.
I once left a handwritten note with the local Postmaster. I gave my name, address, and the address that the package was going to be shipped to.
Everything worked out great and I got my coin just fine.
Old school still works
I did not know this. Thanks.

I have usually found the local post offices quite efficient and honorable wanting to help, with the exception of one local larger one where the workers must be burned out or something, they just don't want to be helpful in many cases.

Sent a large priority box of critical documents to the va that had incorrect zip.
I called the local p.o. where it arrived in transit. Great people there as nice as can be said we have it. Turns out they were part of military family. Thy changed the zip and it delivered next am. Amazing...
