Wow, there is a big hole in our numismatic universe and especially the LSCC. RIP.
John was a gentleman, numismatist, and served as LSCC president for 4 decades. His was a passionate and committed leader helping many collectors including me to become a better writer. I'll always remember our many numismatic discussions. RIP John
A great loss to the numismatic community. I knew him when I worked for Coin World.
huge loss. John co-wrote THE book on early half dimes with Russ Logan.
I am sad to hear of this. John was an expert in so many series, co-authoring the reference books on early dimes and half dimes. He was also one of the few to publish research articles on classic head gold. John shared much information with me on die marriage discoveries in the CHG series.
Sorry to hear. He was a huge contributor to the collecting community. May his memory be a blessing.
I was moved at his LSCC HOF speech. He talked about methodically applying observation and applying true process to documentation. An intellectual with passion are the few people who can truly push the world to be better. He did it for the coin hobby for sure
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
He obviously did a lot for the hobby, had a high intelligence and technical competence to serve the numismatic community. Sorry to hear this sad news. "Any man's death diminishes me". https://www.gradesaver.com/donne-poems/study-guide/for-whom-the-bell-tolls
My condolences to his family. RIP

A great man, I am sorry to hear this. John was very kind to me and understanding when I first submitted articles to Gobrecht Journal for publication about 15 years ago. A scholar and a gentleman.

I knew of him as the man behind a vast body of knowledge of seated coinage and the LSCC. I never knew him personally, but I had only ever heard good things about him. RIP, and condolences to his family and friends.

Sorry to lose a great numismatist and gentleman.
Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association
Met him at LSCC meeting ANA 2015. Glad I went to that one.
I saw and spoke with John at many Liberty Seated Collectors Club meetings, plus on the bourse floor. It's still difficult for me to understand how John was able to be President of the Liberty Seated Collectors Club, plus edit the Gobrecht Journal, for 40 years! That is a lot of service to the numismatic community in general and Liberty Seated collectors specifically. Plus he somehow had time to co-author the Early U. S. Dimes book and the Federal Half Dimes 1792 - 1837 book, as well as many articles in the Gobrecht Journal. Truly amazing the amount of work he put into these efforts!
RIP, John.
