I'm wanting to sell (A nice Chunk) of my holdings...

...but, it's just not the time I realize.
Browsed the Bay and submitted low bids and won the past 2 auctions I bid on.
Mixed emotions is all I've really got out of all of this.

Yep, the curse of ebay is upon you Lee.

Unfortunately, this is where things seem to be headed based on what I've been seeing and hearing.
In my view top pop very expensive coins are they only thing that have upward price potential. I am a weekly bidder at auctions and CAC none finer coins seem to be the only ones going up in price.

Aw, F*@k...
Yep, I'll just hold on to them another 20 years... Hope my health holds up
Agree. Nobody knows what the future holds
No sign that a buyers market isn't going to become even more of a buyers market but nobody knows. Now could be the best time to sell in the next 20 years. What types of coins are you wanting to sell and what's the reason if you don't mind me asking?

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
CAC has nothing to do with it. I've even read that right dang here. Just buy the coins you like and have fun because it's a dadgum hobby and so what if nobody wants to buy coins.

Harrumph and cave-in emptor.
I think I'll revise my "two years max" prediction for the demise of any coin without a sticker.
Being a contrarian often pays off in the long run. Coins have been dead and buried many times in the past. I imagine they’ll be shining brightly again someday despite all the reasons stated. Will this be the the last, greatest, final permanent slide of a age-old hobby? Maybe, but maybe not.
That said, now might not be a great time to pretend that this is a serious investment.
I hear you loud and clear, good luck !!!
As FadeToBlack mentioned, thinning out is a good suggestion. I have pretty much covered the spectrum of coins, dreck
to decently valued ones, (1-3k). All the way from Half-Cents right on up to $20 Gold. Been collecting since I was a kid but really got into it again about 30 years ago. Getting older now and just not having "the fun" as before. Still nice knowing that when I run into someone and coins come up in conversation if they ask me if I have a certain Key Date or a certain Type coin, I probably can reply that I do. That just hardly ever happens though. Box of 20, or 40
, sounds like something I'll end up doing. Peace..
It’s a buyers market at this time but could turn around on dime possibly triggered by some event resulting from migration from equities to hard assets.
I retail many items from my eBay store. If auction blow out generally won’t start lower than 5 to 10 pct below CDN Bid (does trick on most). If doesn’t sell may drop opening a buck or two / rinse and repeat.
At shows may price blow out items at bid plus 10 pct. This is the lowest I would go at a show.
At least top pops seem to be strong. The market is bifurcating or even trifurcating. Some things are struggling while others are still strong.
Check out this auction I recently lost:

You make a lot of assumptions in there. First, you say the economy is "only going to decelerate and likely go into recession." If you are sure of this then you are the smartest man alive. I don't think anyone has a good idea what will happen to the economy in the next several years. It has been very good for awhile now (the economy, not the stock market---and stocks are only off a couple percent for 2018---not depression type numbers). You also assume there will be fewer collectors. Collecting has changed and the internet has played a big role. I see lots of young people involved in collecting but not in the traditional ways (ie. shows, etc). You also state that "no coins" somehow will impact collecting. We no longer have gold coins in circulation---has that hurt the collectability of gold coins? People don't create art like the Old Masters Paintings---how are those prices? Have you also noticed that a billionaire has taken up coin collecting and is putting together one of the greatest collections ever?
My only point is you make some very big assumptions and then jump to the conclusion that the coin market may never be better. I disagree.
Well glad to hear the reason you are selling is not because you need the money. Take your time, don't let the bloodsuckers lowball you.

I will be buying
AMEN!
I'm not worried. I'm in it for the long run. I buy quality, rarity and eye appeal and I won't get suckered by any sharks. I don't think but I KNOW that I will do well.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Go for it, Lee..
As a sidenote, my bullion coins feel just fine at current value.
More doom and gloom.... Coin collecting is mainly a hobby, and a business for some. The market goes up and down... in all fields.. coins, stocks, real estate, art etc.. If an individual, such as the OP, is jaded, then either sell or put the collection in storage. You will either come back to the hobby, or sell the whole thing at some point. As far as value, that depends on many things...and for hobbyists, it should not be considered an investment. Markets change...values go up and down due to interest, the economy and other factors. You have collected for years... take a break, talk with some friends, get another interest for a while. The point of a hobby is to enjoy the subject/activity. If that is gone, move on. Cheers, RickO
