Longines Symphonette Historical Events Medal Series

Anyone here have knowledge on these? I have a .999 silver Declaration Of Independence. All the ones I find are sterling, I can only find info on the sterling silver ones.

All I know is that we could never resell them because on the ugly finishes, so any we bought in went into the scrap bucket.

@CaptHenway .... Really?? That is a nice medal.... I have not seen them, but would buy one if I came across it....Seems strange that it would not sell. Cheers, RickO

This is one piece I just got off Ebay over the weekend. At a bargain compared to others listed at much higher prices/bids. Why? Because of my current interest in the 1915 Pan-Pacific International Exposition legal tender and medals. This one fits in a related item, though made in 1974, with the theme of the Panama Canal.

    Details found concerning this piece:
1+ OZ.LONGINES STERLING SILVER 1904 PANAMA CANAL 3D HIGH RELIEF COIN UNC

1974 Longines minted a series of beautiful sterling silver coins. This one is truly great looking in new condition with is own mint series # on rim.

This coin weighs in at a total of 34 grams 31 of which would be all silver 1 full ounce. The coin is over 1 1/2 inches (40mm) in diameter. The value of the silver continues to rise and will only be part of this coins value. This coin makes a great gift or a nice coin to keep for yourself.

THIS piece, like many other coins and medals minted in this era, experienced severe withdrawal from the collector market into the melting pots during the "great silver melts" of the late 1970s and 1980s (caused primarily by the run-up of silver prices by the Hunt brothers). Plus no one know's how many of these silver pieces are left with all this melting, Effects of the silver melts and the popularity of the subject matter makes certain items extremely collectible and an interesting addition to any collection.

Here are a few of the other medals in the series from another seller (at a much higher price)

I think the designs are pretty good. If I allowed myself I might get more but I just can't right now. The January Apollo group from the mint is gonna take a majority of my coin budget. So I'll be happy with my one Panama Canal piece.

More low quality speculative "collector" medals from the past. Might be worth 5% to 10% below melt, but only in quantity.

I am not concerned with the value or how cheap they are, I am just wanting to find out about any .999 silver ones. All I can find forsale or sold are all sterling.

I found this info which shows there were both Sterling and Fine medals minted.

    https://franklin-mint-silver.com/longines-symphonette-great-american-triumphs-medals.htm

Then this which does have pictures and some details

It came today. Here is what it says on the rim:
    © LONGINES SYMPHONETTE .999 FINE SILVER C871

So even though it was described as Sterling .925 in the Ebay listing it appears as though it is actually .999 fine silver version. This adds more mystery to your question.

There were several full and partial sets for sale I saw as I was doing research. Good luck to you.
