24 nail biting days.......

coinsarefuncoinsarefun Posts: 21,757 ✭✭✭✭✭

......and this finally arrived today from England. It was stuck in US customs for 20 days!
I was really starting to doubt that it would ever show up as the tracking went quite for
over 2 weeks. I dealt with the seller a few times so I wasn’t concerned about the money
I just really wanted this one.
.
For those wondering if your purchase will ever arrive.........it still may happen :)

1794 WILLIAM TILL
Buckinghamshire Slough Halfpenny
D&H24, S
I have the silver proof version and now the copper.
I remember reading awhile back that this is the same Red Lion Inn here in the US.
So, if anyone remembers the Red Lion Inn here in the US the Lion design is the same as on the token.

This is a screen shot of the inn today.

From my experience things can be in Customs from a couple of days to over 30 days.

That is nice looking half penny and there is mini lion on the Inn (second story).

Sounds like if coins are coming across the Atlantic then it take longer to arrive than the ones from the Pacific. I am thinking about certain coins of a false nature. You would hope they would be held-up/stopped at US Customs on the Pacific side.

What a neat medal ..... so detailed down to the Lion Logo banner and the daffodils on the reverse :)
I am glad it finally arrived just in time for the seasons <3

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
@MWallace, I do agree but I’ve bought several times from this seller and always goes through customs
in a day or so. After no movement for 5 days I was starting to worry.
@Paradisefound thank you. I just love the details.
    @OldEastside......good one😂
@acloco...... thanks, I have been looking for an affordable higher grade of preservation for a long
time and no it’s been worth the wait.

    Glad you finally got it!

It's tough to remain patient, at times, but sometimes you have to.

Nice medal. I really like the lion.

I just love how pieces like this look. I like them for the way you can almost see the tools used to carve and sculpt the dies. Not really knowing, I invision a set of various tempered metal engravers with a wooden handles. Not only is the lion depicted so expertly and balanced, but I love the way that clouds (in this case smoke) are depicted from pieces of this time period. These artisans are long gone and never to be duplicated.

And then there is the attractiveness of the mellowed wholesome copper surfaces, not to mention the wonderment that daydreaming about how this piece survived is more than enough to keep my interest in collecting.

Thanks for sharing, I just love seeing pieces like this and can’t get enough.

Really nice token and in great condition. Customs can be a bit of a hassle... I purchased special wedding bands from Ireland years ago... got hung up in Customs... finally got a notice I owed them a fee.... paid and they released them. Cheers, RickO

Just curious, what was the duty levied coming from UK to the US? I know they charge over 30% for items going there.

Pretty sure US is duty free until it exceeds $1,000. Been awhile since I checked though.

I suspect it was not stuck, just in a backlog pile because of the season. It seems like a nice addition.

That's one of my favorite Conder tokens Stef, I love it! It's one of the first Conder tokens I bought because of how beautiful and detailed it is. It is so well struck that you can even see the stucco on the wall of the inn. Here's mine, though yours is much prettier....
