Does not look like it was done at the mint in 1982. Had 36 years of post mint circulation of good traveling wear and damage.

I see what you mean.... possibly worn and grease filled die, too. Coin has a lot of hits though. Example piece until you find a better one.

I found a 1982 D small date copper penny that looks like it was hit with a bat or run over, the front is not as bad but I'm not experienced as you. Is it work anything?
