Extremely rare 1849 Wiener St. Paul's Cathedral medal MS64 in SILVER
An extremely rare, likely unique, Jacques Wiener 1849 St. Paul's Cathedral medal struck not in bronze, not in white metal, but in silver.
BHM-2363 AR
74.4 grams
NGC graded MS64
Exhibiting century-old tab toning with prooflike mirror fields and elements of rainbow highlights obverse and reverse.
Deeply struck and virtually flawless considering its 170 year age.
An elite medal, arguably the finest of the entire Wiener series.

Is it the 3d effect that make these desirable?
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
Not to walk over Weiss' post, but here's a link to a biographical sketch of Jaques Wiener.
Talks of the overall series, also mentions the rarity of the silver medals.
Information and website courtesy of Ben Weiss - has a lot of great information on these medals.

Great medal - doubtless very rare, but not unique. In the early 1980's, a custom fitted case containing 25 silver Cathedral medals (including St. Paul's) has been sold in Germany - estimate was 10.000 Deutsche Mark and if I'm not wrong the lucky buyer won it even for less. However, I was too young to realize that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at that time - and too short of money as well. Apart from these, I just came across a Münsterkirche zu Bonn silver medal which was not for sale and the Münsterkirche zu Aachen silver medal shown in my profile picture. And, of course, a few Cologne Cathedral silver medals showing different stages of the construction process.
You know, a couple of people over the last several years told me they heard from a guy who heard from a guy that 20, or 30, or was it 40 years ago there was an auction in London or Berlin or was it Madrid that almost certainly had a St. Paul's (or Hagia or NotreDam or maybe it was a Strasbourg) Weiner, and they were really, really, almost completely positive it was a silver (or was it white metal, or maybe silvered?).
But hey. Maybe they're right.

Looks like you think I don't know what I'm talking about ... But I AM right!
Well - the company was Münz Zentrum Köln, Auction XLVII (10.-12.11.1982), lot 3342. And yes - I have viewed this set at that time. If you still don't believe me, you're welcome to receive a PM with scans of the very detailed description of this set.
Have you tried offering it back to John? He may know others who wanted to buy it at the time.
Wicked cool Weiss

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
My apologies. I didn't realize this was a BST thread.
Nice medal.
A truly impressive medal because of it's rarity and of course it's a Wiener cathedral medal
So how much is this?

I was searching for something else and this thread caught my attention.
I know it's been 3 years, but I'm curious if this medal sold? Thanks, Bob

Great to see NGC slabbed this. Anyone know if PCGS slabs these?
Big and beautiful. Peace Roy

Thank you! And yes, it's still available. And apparently in the (checks watch) four years since this was posted, no other records or images of a Wiener St. Paul's in silver have surfaced. Though one guy claims he saw a similar piece in an auction in Hamburg, or Herne, or was it Köln back in 1982 during the Fauklands War.

Have you thought of listing it as a "St. Paul's Cathedral /Devil's Tower Weiner" medal? I mean with more flowery words maybe.
I, think, we have a full set of Weiner Medals, in their original box. Beyond this we have an additional medals.
I know this is not BST but would like to relay a quick message.
I have a book of Cathedral medal by Emiel Van Hoydonck for sale. PM if anyone is interested. Thanks, and sorry for posting here.
that's cool
The "guy" doesn't claim - he KNOWS that another piece has been sold in the early 80's. I offered to send you a proof by PM and there was no reaction from you . But hey - just keep on dreaming it's unique ...
