Please don't give anybody any ideas!

The right kind of hydraulic press is hard to come by for most people, thank goodness!

Was anything ever decided on this piece? I still don't like it.

The final word is Mike believes it is a real Sandwich Strike Error but while Fred does not dispute Mikes assessment, he (Fred) needs to be 100% certain and will not certify it.

I also believe it is a real sandwich strike error done at the US Mint.

Dcarr, Can you try a sandwich strike on your press with two blank planchets on an older toned BU coin?

    Can you get this effect?

I personally think the toning would be disrupted.

Can you do it first and then AT it?

I have a very curious mind.

For the recent influx of questions about weirdly toned (usually goldish) coins... is this an error... or is this an experimental planchete... or what is this... or whatever.

A how-to from a Generation Z. “Plating” coins. Skip to about the two minute mark for the results.

The only 'coin crushing' I have done was as a kid when we put cents on the railroad track....They were really smashed - when we could find them.....Cheers, RickO
