Looks like a solid MS64FSB to me.... in hand it could go 65.... Cheers, RickO
I agree... very nice piece, nice strike... 64FB

Looks great like near gem or gem.
Looks original too.
Those early dates are sexy.

Perhaps some doubling of date? Nice Merc.
Checked the FSB first. A big YES. A nice pick up.
Certainly not FB. I am not convinced it is even Uncirculated from the images.

I have simply a question:
why do you take pictures through the plastic of the 2x2? ( I assume that is what I see?)
coin would show a lot better without a image through plastic and it would give everyone a much better view of it.
Pretty coin. My favorite date because of the flat top 3 (the only flat top in the series).

maybe some friction the luster looks rubbed off on cheek?
AU 63 No FB.
IMHO the pic of the Merc does not look FB, but it is a looker.
It looks nice and original, and relatively clean. In the photo, I don't see any rub, so I want to say 63 (if there is rub, call it a 58). I'd want a bit more lustre (which may be there, but I'm not seeing it) to go 64/65.
Ah, thanks for the close up image of the band lines... yeah, there's a subtle break there. I'll still go with 64. I'm seeing a bit of luster still... perhaps it's my rose colored glasses... lol...

What characteristic is a "flat top"?
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
I love the toning around the die polish lines.
Take a look at the 3 in 1923 you will see the font used has a flat top; and when you look at the 3 in 1936 you will see the font used has a rounded top. Only the 1923 used this type of the number 3.

Tony you are a wealth of information. Through all of these years collecting the dimes I have never noticed the Flat Top 3 in the 1923 Date.
Ken
Thanks, Ken.

Just information. Flat Top 3 was used on only these Dime dates. 1803, 1837 LG Date, 1843, 1923 and all of the Roosevelts. Do not think I missed any.
