I like wholesome unleaned circulated gold, but I'm not so sure this one qualifies. The pattern of wear leads me to believe that the loss of rim detail may be the result of more than just wear.

Nice. I had an 1836 $2.5 that look almost the same.
Perhaps there is a new wave to collect those coins that have served their intended purpose. Not sure enough thought has been given to this concept
