Recovering from a computer crash is painful - and a Hawaiian Commem NewP

As many of you know, I enjoy coin photography almost as much as the coins themselves. I was lucky enough to get to the last PCGS invitational in San Antonio and worked out a deal with Harry Laibstain on this Hawaiian. I initially didn't plan on chasing a coin at this grade level since the price on these gets steep pretty quickly. However, sometimes coins just catch your eye and the gotta-have-it-itis kicks in. This one doesn't look like the typical Hawaiian and I thought it would be a great match for my "Box of 20 Best Commems."
Until recently it lived in a 65+ holder. Apparently it found its way into a 66 holder, which doesn't bother me at all.
Since It arrived in the mail a week after the show (I was too stupid to ask Harry to bring it), I've been wanting to photograph it, but my trusty desktop picked that day to bite the dust, once and for all. It was a little old anyhow and I took the occasion to buy a new setup. Fortunately every thing important was backed up, but trying to reinstall all the data and software on a new machine takes some work!
In the process I updated my PhotoShop Elements software and the Canon EOS tethering software. Old dogs can learn new tricks, but only with effort. Much effort, and a bit of cussing. New versions of Windows apparently assume that we're all retarded and working around their efforts to incrementally overly simplify things takes a while.
A few short hours later, here is my first attempt. I don't love everything about this photo. The TrueView is admittedly better, but it's not a bad start:
In the thread I started about the San Antonio show report I teased @Paradisefound with rumors of a NewP she might like, and here it is, finally.

The coin is beautiful on its own merits and appreciate the varying views afforded by different cameras. That is definitely specimen I would be proud to own.

That is a very nice Hawaiian commemorative... I do not have one of those... Might have to get one... Never lived there, but did pass through on my way to New Zealand. Cheers, RickO

I continue to use XP on one computer and W-7 (adjusted to work faster like XP) on a laptop. I have no use for all the slow, wasted capacity and junk added to the later versions. A friend has W-10 and it is like riding a three-legged mule backwards, up hill.
Backing up data.
I have 6 external hard drive in a couple different locations with all the exact same information on it.
I am not paranoid, just OCD.

I guess the second photo that I took is closest. The TrueView colors are what you see in-hand if you look at it with almost perfect axial lighting. Actually when you first see it, it doesn't really strike you as a much of a toner.

Well, I only have three external hard drives in three different locations that I rotate every few weeks.
Been through 3 full-on hard drive crashes on my home desktop. After the first one I got a little paranoid. Still, rebuilding a drive with software and data is a huge PITA.
I like your first pic, looks more like the coin in hand with smoe lighting. The problem with TrueView is that after examining the photo, I'm usually disappointed with the coin.
I just went through a similar experience. Turns out I had a software conflict it seems on my W-7 version(of course I figured it out after I ordered a new one...computer shop said it was my hard drive failing). I ordered a W-10 and tweeked it to be like W-7. You can shut off all the parasites in the system you don't use in the start menu. I'm an old dog that can but hates to learn new tricks! So far I a happy with the W-10 and gets me away from the soon to be lack of support of W-7.
My old 12 year old w-XP got me through the crunch!
Got a laptop with XP, too. Still have the CDs for 95 and 98 and diskettes for 3.1.
