Hawaii Coin Show Report

The biggest and by far the best Hawaii coin show (Hawaii State Numismatic Association Coin Show) just concluded and I think it was a great success. The show competed with other mainland shows and the show days were much later in the year so it impacted the amount of mainland dealers attending. Hopefully more mainland coin dealers return next year. For them it is great for them to mix business and a vacation in paradise. There were about 50 bourse tables

The show started on Friday noon and many people rushed in at the opening. Business was strong on Friday and Saturday but like most shows it was very slow on Sunday. I was hoping that many collectors from the outer islands such as pradisefound would attend but she had a sunset Ash scattering. It would have been neat to have met paradisefound for the first time, hopefully she and others will attend next year.

My sales were down as there were much less mainland dealers attending. However the buying side was great and I purchased from many of the dealers attending. Eagle Eye came by and sold me bullion that he purchased over the counter at the show and did not want to carry back home, thanks Rick.

I did have dinner with a William Johnson a mainland dealer. We had a great dinner at the recently opened Paia Restaurant that William had previously eaten at in Maui. He liked it so much he went there at least twice and if not more times on this trip. They are famous for their fish and it was great, I wish we had taken pictures. We had a great time and talked and walked in Waikiki from 6:00 pm till 12:40 am

I am sorry that I forget to take some pictures of the show.

Normally we have a coin show once a month, but none as big or active as the HSNA coin show
