Newp Mercury Dime variety...

I picked this up today from my local shop. It's a raw and unattributed 1942-S FS-501 Inverted S Mercury Dime. Comments always welcome.

Oh... wow! Nice!
How many punched before it was realized?
Good eye, good pick up and good photography
I'm not sure. But there are only 29 attributed across all grades at PCGS.
wait until Dimeman see this
He'll lose his mind! LOL
Later, Paul.
It's funny, I was thinking about him when I came across this. LOL
He is watching the Cowboys
And they are actually winning, so far.
Nice score Justin!
Looks like a 58.
Mines only a 55

Thanks Paul! It certainly has an AU look, but I cannot see any actual breaks in the original Mint Luster. The luster is a bit subdued and not even close to booming like you see on an early die state example. This one passes the white paper test, I'd personally call it a low MS say around MS-60 - 61 possibly 62.
Very cool. Was the seller aware of the variety? What’s it worth?
No, the seller had no idea. They do not look for varieties with the exception for the commonly known varieties or ones that are already attributed on a TPG label.
Prices can vary, but the last 2 auction results at Great Collections was for an AU-58 selling for $151.86 and a MS-64 selling for $337.50. I'd value it at around $175.00 or so.
Nice find... I would say it should get an MS 60/61....I need to check mine (I have a few of that year
)....Cheers, RickO
I'm surprised he has not said anything. This is right up his alley. Maybe we need to summon him like Beetlejuice. LOL
@DIMEMAN, Dimeman, Dimeman...
Obvious invert jtlee, and a good eye to boot!
Yes and the Cowboys actually won! On the 42-S Inv S Nice find probably a nice AU as stated by someone earlier.
I have this variety in PCGS65. Thanks for the heads up.
