PS Those are die prep lines and NOT hairlines in the fields.

I'll post the result tomorrow. BTW, this looks better in hand believe it or not.

    MS-65.

Is the white balance correct in the photo? Is this really a “yellow coin?”

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I got this in a London Auction and it was previewed by the absolute best and brightest in London (principles at Sovereign Rarities and Baldwin's).This coin was BODYBAGGED for hairlines. I will be a monkey's uncle if there are any - and I could not see in all sorts of light and magnification to 30x. Honestly, it does make one wonder, and I want to throw a technical.

Those are the PCGS pictures of the coin and IMO is boosted a bit to the yellow.

PS - this date/overdate is excessively rare nicely preserved.

Nice coin. I'll have me some of those hairlines if you want to get rid of it.

It's an occupational hazard. I picked up a superb George I 1/- that had been bodybagged for the same reason. Maybe someone needs to amend the rulebook with a note to the effect that raised lines in the field are on the die. Good for buyers, not so good for submitters ;)

To be honest, I was shocked by the BB. That is ridiculous and the opinion has been seconded by some very highly placed experts in London.
I had showed the DC 1839 Halfcrowns on these pages too. I really had thought about resubmitting both, but really, why? I def. would like side by side comparos on these two coins....
