The "Other Show" Report

The annual South Carolina Numismatic Association show was held this weekend at the TD Convention Center in Greenville, SC. Because of the conflict with the Baltimore Expo there were fewer dealers set-up, and there was a large expanse of unoccupied space on the bourse floor. Bill Latour was serving his first year as bourse chairman and he did an excellent job. The Convention center is an immense property and in past years it was easy to get lost just trying to find where you were supposed to unload your inventory. This year there were well placed signs, making it easy to locate the drop off area. So we were off to a good start.
The bourse traffic was steady on Friday and Saturday. After a relatively slow start we actively sold coins to serious collectors, which represented a welcome change from the mostly dealer to dealer transactions at the last show in Concord, NC.
Sales included a key date Standing Liberty quarter, high end full band Mercury dimes, Morgan dollars, a high grade half dime and a few nice Barber pieces.
The US Mint was present for the entire show and, to my surprise, they had available Palladium Mercury coins, which I thought had sold out immediately when initially offered. There were also a number of interesting exhibits on display that had been put together by both young and old(er) numismatists.
As a member of the Colonial Coin Collectors Club (C-4), I was somewhat disappointed that I wasn't able to attend their convention in Baltimore, but I felt it was more important to support my State show.

I appreciate all show reports. Thanks for taking the time.
I am also surprised the Mint had Palladium coins there.

Great report. Thank you!

Thanks for your report.
Appreciate the nice report.
Why would this show overlap with Baltimore?
The Baltimore show is usually held in November. This year it was moved up to October which created the conflict with the South Carolina show.
