    Well, interesting read.

As usual, you were assumed guilty until proven innocent, with the "facts" aired by the media and prematurely found guilty in the court of public opinion. Glad cooler heads prevailed and it worked out for you.

Fun story to read, Kevin. Not fun to live, I guess.

    Amen to what Bryce said.

I'd like to thank all those who posted to this thread for not quoting the OP!

Amazing story.....Especially when many of us acquire such notes and spend them frequently.
I may have had a hard time letting someone swipe my notes with a counterfeit pen, but I wasn't there and couldn't be sure.

Captain said that they tried the pen on the bill about 50 times......

Oh, I thought I read in your story that the deputy came to your house and compromised ALL of your notes with that marker.

The bill used at Dollar Tree was 1950, the other $10 and $20 bills I had were from around 1972, which the Deputy marked when he came to my house. The original bill was in the evidence room at the station.

I enjoyed your post. you sound abit like me. I frequently get stacks of $2.00 bills which I use as tips, or handouts. It is fun to watch the face of old and young alike, most think they are something special, some don't know, and some suspect them. I also dump older star notes (note the rare ones). From your story you said most (except the $10.00 bill) are from the 60s. I also keep the "little heads" small portraits, and am surprised that even today people question small portrait 5s 10s 20s 50s and hundreds. Ive had cashiers and others eager to exchange these strange bills for more familiar currency. I've even had the drive-through window lady ask, "hey do we take these".

You're brave spending obsolete U.S. notes anywhere but at a coin show.

In April of 2016, a Houston Texas school girl was arrested for paying for lunch with a (real) two dollar bill.

At the local pub last week, the manager really enjoyed the two $2as I gave her in tip, she said she gave one to her dad who loved older bills.
Was there last night, gave a 2 $2s to the other manager, who loved them and was going to give one each to her kids,
she taught me a little about history, she said that on the back, which shows the signing of the declaration of independence,
that one of the individuals was one delegate who was African American, with her kids being bi-racial, she wanted to show
that even back then, there were those from different cultures that contributed to our beginnings.

Yes, $2 bills have been available from banks continuously since 1976 and can be had a face value today.

“It was a 68-year-old, mint-condition bill with several printing irregularities, which led the cashier to believe that the bill was counterfeit."

Not true. Few series 1950 $10 FRNs were actually made and put in circulation in 1950. The series date on currency isn't changed each year as coins are and some series 1950 $10 FRNs were made each year and placed in circulation almost two decades after the 1950 date, but all of them are dated 1950.

The printing quality is uniformly superb, as is nearly all US currency. The difference between intaglio printing and other types of printing would be easy to distinguish for many experts, although only the Secret Service and Treasury can LEGALLY declare a note counterfeit.

I have spent many $2 bills and dollar and half dollar coins. People like the currency better than the coins. Not sure why.

Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

Glad to hear this all ended well and that it didn't deter you from continuing to do this finding the older coins and bills is what got me started in collecting and think it really helps.

OP - congrats on the mention in the e-Sylum. Although it was just an excerpt and not the entire volume. :p
