Lost/Stolen Package
A package being shipped via USPS from Arkansas to Colorado has been reported lost/stolen.

The Bumstead Lesher Dollar (serial number 934) in F15 should be easy to spot if it shows up for sale somewhere.
I'd ask officer Davis who sends out these broadcasts. Do you work for an insurance company?
That would have been a fairly large package, and since the OP is a 'partial' listing, one wonders how much more was included. I cannot imagine sending such a package by regular mail. Perhaps there is more detail not mentioned. Cheers, RickO

crooks look for the most noticeable packages to get into and seem this is the case this package stuck out from the rest

How many of those who have lost serious valuables like this think how they would have avoided the trouble? A paid courier may seem expensive but in retrospect not so much.
if you use registered usps, it gets locked in a safe every time the package stops moving and is not that expensive to insure a registered package
This issue and the ensuing debate have occurred over and over within this forum for many years. We know the safest and most predictable way to ship. People use other methods that are less safe and play the odds.
Anything over $700 is actually cheaper to send registered USPS. Insurance is included in the registered postage price. Just be sure you declare the value on the accompanying Form 3806. And if you request electronic return receipt at the counter, no form required, (it's an on-line viewable PDF file accessed through tracking and accepted by ebay and PP as signature proof of delivery) instead of signature confirmation (form required) you save a little.
I just sent a $1785 coin today coast to coast using registered mail for $23. Would have cost $31.80 to have sent small flat rate box insured with signature confirmation. Also, registered mail is the only type where USPS will honor a claim for lost "bullion." Have yet to get them to define "bullion" for me.
The other advantage (to the seller) of registered is it's slowness in reaching it's destination (usually 5 to 10 days). In two cases this year I was notified by ebay of unauthorized credit card use on a purchase of a coin sold at over $1500. Since it was still in transit I was able to file a USPS "intercept" and have the coins returned.

If you use Hugh Wood, for several hundred dollars a year you would get coverage of several hundred thousands in shipping a year. And you can do priority or express for that.
Does anyone use a courier to deliver a small load of currency? That certainly would keep eyes on the prize. Peace Roy

A major dealer on these forums lost a gold shipment in the Northeast to cac. Even if insured you usually have a long drawn out post mortem on what happened. If I were the insurance company I would seriously audit the customer and pull the coverage if they were not shipping in the right containers.
I have all of my mail shipped to my post office box. That keeps things from getting picked up off the porch or out of the box on the street. For anything over $1000, Registered only, and again, to my P.O. Box. I don't want anyone knowing where I live and thinking I have valuables there.
p o. box not always.. I got of all things ... got coins in package in my p.o. box slot... addressed to box directly above mine...... with delivery confirmation already probably scanned.... name on label .....pretty well known coin dealer

But the most important question is have any of your packages been misplaced when they’re addressed to your PO Box?
The PO employees know where you live.
This is a very real problem with PO/PMB boxes, ESPECIALLY if there is another box owner near yours with the same last name..
Wow... some super pieces in this lot!! The Lesher Dollar should be pretty simple to track if it ever goes up for sale... with or without a holder... good luck getting these back!

The employees at my post office know what belongs where. They actually look at the name first, then confirm with box no. on the label. I get lots of packages and mail, and never a problem. If they see me waiting in line, they go back and get an item requiring a signature before I even get to the counter.
And I know who they are.
So sad, and so, so preventable.

Luckily, I am not a Smith or Jones, and live near a town small enough that everyone in the post office knows my name, and which box is mine.
