Chocolate Lincoln Dansco incomplete, full of roll search finds

I finally got a Lincoln Dansco (courtesy of @KollectorKing ) and transferred all the partial sets I’ve made and sifted through bags of wheats (everything from roll searching) and here is my attempt at a matched milk chocolate Lincoln set. I’ll probably have to buy the rest. It was a lot of fun over the years saving every pre 1982 cent.

I still remember sitting on my folk's bed with my dad, albums opened, sorting through piles of wheaties and IHC's and filling holes in coin albums. Fond memories - I think that this may be the purest form of coin collecting - just for the sheer enjoyment of the challenge.

Looking good!
I have been casually filling a LMC folder from circulation. No varieties. And upgrading more red as I go. Still incomplete. I told myself two years ago when I started it that when I finish it I will: keep ugrading for color and buy myself a complete cheap BU set.
I like the brown. I saw a post on here awhile ago talking about the beauty of chocolate brown cents. I had never seen them like that before.
Good luck on finishing and thanks for sharing!

Very nice
Just keep away from Florida and Arizona -- too hot and your chocolate will melt.
Really nice set... What most of us remember as kids with cents...Trying to fill the album...and, for many of us, not quite getting there..... I like what you have done there and wish you the best of luck completing it... Cheers, RickO
If you are persistent, you should be able to find a few more of those in the memorial dates. But one has to concede that those harder-to-find wheat issues are no longer in circulation and must be bought.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
Thanks for posting your set.
I have something similar - put together from roll searches and from bags of parking meter cents. All done in the 60s.
I have to leave, but if I get a chance later I will post a photo of my childhood set. Mine are in blue slider Whitman folders my parents gave me as a birthday present a long time ago.

Nice.... I see 3 white chocolates in there
@Aspie_Rocco Nice looking set. It reminds me of the set that my brother-in-law showed me when he reintroduced me to coin collecting. He worked on the albums as a child in the late 60's and early 70's. He has spent the last year or so adding pieces to it by picking up a few each month when we hit the coin shows. He gets very excited every time he picks up a few Lincolns, as I imagine it brings him back to his childhood.
@BlindedByEgo I agree it is probably the purist form of coin collecting.
Good luck completing the set. Donato

Why did my previous comment get a "LOL"? Any theories?
Super cool, I got to do one of those

Who knows, but don't let it bother you

I won't. Thanks for replying!
Here is my set - I stopped in the late 60s, but did add a few up to 1971. Neighborhood friends and I had a blast looking for coins to fill the holes. Gave us something to do those cold winter nights in Wisconsin. Also, we liked the chocolate color over red.

Nice set @Cameonut
That is optimistic of them to have included the 55 DDO space.
I am glad the nickel books don’t have a 39 DDR space, or I would have had to get more than 2 lol.
Thanks for posting.

That's impressive that you filled that many through roll searching!

Thank you. I always saved wheats growing up, and began roll searching around 2007 and tapered off to stopping around 2012. I will always save pre 82 cents for the copper value and nostalgia. I still occasionally sift through OBW rolls but no more mass searches.

Nice Aspie_Rocco !
Cool that you found a '24's, '25's, and '26-D. Should be nice roll finds on any dedicated search as yours! I focus on Kennedy Halves, and am putting together a Dansco of best coins found while searching rolls- including silver.
It's amazing what's still out there. Your finds inspire the effort- thank you!
Almost certain it was a finger slip on a mobile device. Way back when we had a disagree button, I told myself that was the only way I'd get one of those

Great accomplishment @Aspie_Rocco .
I am doing something similar with Memorials now.
Brown set
RB set
Lowball set
It's just for fun and the challenge of it.
The lowball set is especially tough.
I finally completed this set several years ago. I started it in 1962 and moved everything to a Danso about six years ago.
I'm in the process of selling my gem, red PCGS Lincolns but this set, and my large cents, will stay with me.

Love this thread.

@mannie gray I like your choice of sets you are working on. Very cool and would would enjoy some pictures if you ever want to share!
All right, will do when they get a little bit more complete.
It's a lot of fun, relieves stress, and costs virtually nothing (except my time of course) and since I hate watching TV, sitting around, etc., it doesn't really even cost that.
On a somewhat related note, I "made" the lowest graded Lincoln Memorial that has ever been seen by PCGS, a 1963-D in G04. The second lowest graded Memorial is a F12.
Talk about a conditionally rare coin....a Memorial in G04...and it was naturally worn too.
@Aspie_Rocco
A question for you......
Did you put that set together from just bankroll searching or did you go through wheat rolls/bags too?
I'm confused.
If you found all that from just roll searching....#HOLY CRAP !!!!!
@mannie gray
Do you have a picture of that Lincoln lowball?
Sorry. That originally lacked clarity. It is all from roll searching and pocket change. I save all pre82 cents and put them into canvass bank bags for storage. So I dug in my bank bags, made up of roll searching and pocket change of 15+ years. I own a BU 09 VDB, but I bought it so it is not in there yet.

Wow, that is amazing.
Some of your finds are crazy tough..24-S..etc.
I am doing the same thing but I have my finds over the last several years just thrown in a bag and haven't gone through them in any organized way, (a winter's day project) but I know the 20s S mints are tough. 1919-S is findable...but that was about it if I remember correctly.
1954 Philly is a son of a ***** too.
No, I sold it years ago, can't remember if it was on eBay or Teletrade.
I got lucky one day about 5 years ago and bought about $100 in cents and nickels from a Navy Federal Credit Union, that had just been brought in by a “little old lady” the tell said. Being a nickel geek I got mostly rolls of nickels since the half’s and quarters were gone. A lot of early doubles were found that day. I still have a few partial early sets with a scarce few 1910-30

Yeah, luck is needed for the pre 40 dates. All are tough to find now.
I'm impressed that you found a 30-S and a 35-S. All the 30s mintmarked dates are crazy tough to find.
It looks to me like the coin in the 1960 small date slot is actually a large date.

Yes. For the difference see lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1960smalldate.html
Finding a circulated chocolate brown specimen of this coin might be a challenge. Only about 2 million were made, and nearly all were intercepted by collectors and speculators before reaching circulation. Every 1960 small date cent you're likely to see at a show or auction will be uncirculated. (However, circulated Denver mint specimens are plentiful.)

Thanks for the tip. I moved it.

This is great! Hope you find the missing coins and complete the set soon.. the set you have chosen is also very interesting.. “milk chocolate” nice.. cheers!
Love the albums, thanks for posting
If you put your BU '09 VDB in your pocket for a few years you might be able to get it into shape for the set.
