I was So Sad to Read this post in another Thread. I have only known JT for 10 Years and when I first talked to him I was as lost on Varieties as Most Newbies. This was back in 2010 as I joined this hobby and was finally introduced at the 2012 Fun Show. He was a Mentor to me and spent many hours teaching me about all the Varieties in the series he Knew I Loved.
It was at that show he told me how he enjoyed his teaching others when he could see the same passion that he Had. Over the past 6 years I have sent him many coins most of which came back with a hand written note explaining why it was not the right one.
I have many memories of times when I could not get pcgs to recognize a variety but once I got a letter from JT those coins got the right labels. I have more than a few of his coins but this 1960 Proof Washington Quarter with the Reverse Die Crack that Matches the one I bought from Fred Weinberg will Always be my favorite 2 coins connecting two of the finest folks I know.
Thanks for taking the time to Teach SO Many of Us...….My Condolences to His Friends and his Family. RIP
I used to be famous now I just collect coins.

I've known him for a long time. Sad to hear.
I am truly saddened to hear this news. I have had many conversations with JT as I looked over his inventory and he looked thru mine. I've thanked him many times for his work on the Cherrypicker's Guide, but he was humble.
And he sure loved talking football.
One of my most cherished possessions is a first edition CPG with his signature. Later editions with his signature as well.
RIP my friend.

J.T. Stanton was a neat guy, did see him often at the ANA Summer Seminar in the mid-to-late 1990s. RIP and condolences to his family.

Sad news. He was a biggie in the errors and varieties world and is immortalized with the Cherrypicker's Guide. His 4 page monograph on doubled dies is where I send anyone wanting to know about them and how to tell them from strIke doubling. I know he had serious health issues many years ago. RIP, JT.

I'm so very sorry to hear about this massive loss to Numismatics. Never had the privileged to meet him. Many condolences to his family.
Later, Paul.
JT helped me with questions and purchases of some of the early Formative Lincoln varieties -- got me special discount deals with ANACS to certify when the others would not. Had a good ebay selling site and I bought several items from him a very good prices. A gentleman and a scholar for all his CPG work.
Here's to JT! Cheers! AK
Wow and news indeed. Condolences to his family, friends, and the entire numismatic community.
