Since a lot of us use eBay for buying and selling, I’m sure this will draw interest. From TheStreet.com

I assume you are familiar with the studies commissioned by tobacco companies that proved cigarettes were harmless.

I for one agree with him. I would not complete a purchase on eBay, unless PayPal or a cc handled thru paypal is an option.

I am comfortable with going back to personal/business checks and money orders. My business was not improved by adding PP as a requirement. It allowed me to ship faster is all.
Ebay stock has plunged because, in my opinion, Amazon has targeted their sellers and is taking away their business. Ebay has competitors.

Looks like eBay is back to subsidizing the large bullion sellers again too.

I know a LOT of people that were hesitant to use PayPal at first. They didn't trust electronic payments. And it was more than 60% of my business in the 90s that hated the idea of even paying by CC on a digital platform. So, while there will be a transitional period, people will eventually embrace eBay CC processing.

And that's assuming PayPal is going away, which it probably is not. After all, eBay doesn't stop the occasional person paying me by money order. They can't easily prevent someone from paying me via PayPal, even if that is not through the eBay site.

This is all just a negotiating ploy by PayPal as they try to strike a new preferential deal with eBay.

Paypal is not innocent in all of this. When they spun off, my grandfathered 2.2% rate went to 2.9%.

Ebay now requires 30 day free returns (seller covers the shipping both ways) to earn the tepid 10% discount. I believe that sellers are pulling away from the requirements of immediate shipping and overall butt kissing plus insidious return terms for the discount.

Folks return to the old "I get to the post office on Wednesdays and Fridays" type of service, the company will continue to tailspin.

Value of Ebay today is 2.8% of Amazons capitilization. Ebay management is doing no better than Sears/K-mart and will likely join the chapter 11 heap in the next downturn.
