Thanks you guys and lady. What would you say if I told ya it was a 62? Would you believe that or am I telling an untruth?
    Let’s have it ;)

Nice looking coin. Can you describe what’s going on with the rim near the date?

As struck. It’s not anything else but that. Not damaged not tooled.

    Thatnks Jim,
This is an old image of this coin I took a while back. I should pull it out and do it again with my new Nikon but I guess I’m lazy ;)

Looks like its struck thru turkey...or maybe greece.

If its in a 62 its probably due to reverse. Obv looks 64 or better.

This coin is more than just nicely struck. The details are sharp with square, well-defined lettering and devices.

I'm guessing the grade is due to subdued luster. Some 1921s just have more than others. Surface-wise, I see nothing here to preclude a gem grade.

    I really like that one.

It looks much better than 62.

My impression is a 63... not sure about the lower rim on the obverse, could knock it down... Cheers, RickO

Very nice coin! It has much more balance and appeal than the 65 or 66 that was posted the past week.

Outstanding! Must be some hairlines I am not seeing for a 62 grade. Looks 66!

Maybe the weak strike at 6 o'clock on the obverse holding back? I don't care. Looks great!

Personally I will never see this Peace dollar at the grade assigned, they missed. Actually I was looking for a nice 64/65 for my collection and then I stumbled across this one. We all have our standards with the coins we collect but I’ll never see this piece as a 62. I like it at the 62 price I paid for it :) One day I will crack it out and see what pcgs has to say.
Thanks to all for your comments, interest and chiming in.
    Happy hunting, Joe

    I don't see how that's just a 62, I really don't. Great pickup, Joe!

I don't understand why all the TPG's are so tough on those, these days when I GTG on these, I take my first impression and subtract 2 points and I usually get it right with that method, BTW fabulous coin CHD

Thanks buddy :) I feel the same way. I have my own opinion of this Peace dollar so the grade is meaningless to me. It’s just kinda the way I collect. Sometimes I agree with the grade assigned but in this case I don’t. Never the less I still am attracted to this one and I don’t see that changing any time soon ;)
Thank again and happy hunting, Joe

This is why grading from images is often impossible. For this to grade MS-62 (if the grade is accurate), I assume one or more of the following:

Hairline patches. The second image shows a darker area on the right side -- might be hairlined there.

Impaired luster. Not obvious from the images, but who knows.

Planchet or environmental problems. There is a diagonal streak on the reverse going through the 'OL' in DOLLAR. Might be environmental damage.

Or the grade just might be totally wrong.
