Painted ASEs plus a little acetone

DNADaveDNADave Posts: 7,271 ✭✭✭✭✭

I found these for spot plus $1, which was $15.34 ish at my local spot.

The thin 'paint' which is actually more like a sticker came off the middle two in a minute or two soak.
The thicker painted ones and the one with a heavy layer of acrylic took overnight.

Nice job and that looks like stronger acetone than I get from the hardware store, based on the brown bottle ?

Acetone does a great job on enameled coins.... be sure to rinse thoroughly though. And do a second soak in clean acetone. Then I use alcohol first, followed by hot, running water. Cheers, RickO

    Just getting your opinion @ricko
When I acetone new ASE's, I do not rinse, I just let them dry.
    That's OK ?
    Thanks

@1630Boston.... On new, clean ASE's, that is OK if you are using clean acetone. Cheers, RickO

    Yes,
Just because it's expired for laboratory use, doesn't mean I can't get some good use out it. :)

It's not stronger, but higher purity.

Always do a final rinse in pure, unused acetone. It's okay to allow to dry after the final rinse.
