Coin/life balance

The struggle is real...I've bid on and purchased coins from home, at work, on the beach, out at dinner, riding down the road and up a mountain.
I do love how mobile devices give us the ability to be out and active with the ability to enjoy this hobby along the way.

Just be careful commenting on the "smooth cheek", if you are among strangers.
Yeah, because you may end up with some bag marks if you do.

It's an addiction really.... just as bad as any drug.
I've done ridiculous things in order to bid on a coin.
I've bid on coins at work from my office and at home from my sick bed when I had the flu.
I've bid on coins on the weekend when I'm out and in the middle of the night and early in the morning.
I've lost a few but my success rate is pretty high percentage-wise.

It can get bad...
Almost got hit by a train once trying to get home in time to bid.
Worst was pretending to be sick while on a romantic weekend getaway so I could lock myself in the hotel room bathroom to bid.
LOL and don't make mention of breasts or skirt lines around someone else's wife or girlfriend.

I went fishing all day out in the Pacific Ocean, got home and mailed out a coin I had sold while on the water.
I got a good balance
Or your own, for that matter.

Retired, got plenty of free time !!!
Value life above all else, it's precious. Doesn't matter how much money or how many coins you have. If you don't have your health nothing else matters.
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
My Nolan Ryan collecting was like that. So much so that I needed plan my whereabouts based on bids on eBay or baseball card show locations. When I took up coin collecting again I told myself I would not do that, and I have not.

yes tech has made life easy, but never depend on the tech too much cause you never know when things will happen and you must do things the old fashioned way

Some of the stories in this thread are concerning. Addiction is real and powerful. When you reach that level, it is time to take a break. No coin is worth your mental health/sanity.
Balance is very important between all the things you need & want and the responsibility that comes with it all
It's a constant re-balancing to make sure it is in harmony
I do have some vices but addicted to Coin ..... NO.... not me
Absolutely
My affectionate nickname for this numismatic addiction is “EXONUMONIA”

I won my favorite coin with a bid while sitting on the beach in Hawaii.
Computers in general and handhelds in particular have become an addiction. I mean folks can't go grocery shopping without calling home to check on the onions? Buy a damn extra bag, they will keep.
Still...to us baby boomers, it is fascinating to buy a coin from an auctioneer a 1000 miles away, post it on a site 2000 miles away and get a positive (or negative) reaction from a guy eating cannoli's at a café in Venice. All of that in a couple of minutes.
When I decided to come back to collecting I made one of my first purchases while on vacation on a mobile device.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
I have other hobbies and many things to occupy my mind. No addiction here...firearms, coins, decks of cards, hip flasks, silver tankards, shooting, spelunking, hiking, house maintenance, cooking, friends and politics.....I am sure I missed a couple along the way...Lots of fun.. Cheers, RickO
Just be sure your buying them right.
So here's an example of when it's sick. At a local coin club I go to there is a weekly auction. Some people bring their kids. A guy was selling a few low value foreign coins just for fun. One kid bid on them, like 3 bucks, you can tell he's really excited there's something he can actually bid on. An adult in the room bids 3.25. The kid bids 3.50. This goes on for 5 minutes till it's clear the guy is going to keep outbidding the poor kid, and you can tell the kid is ready to cry. Seriously. So anyway I bid 10 bucks and stared the dude down, then privately sold them to the kid for a dollar.
Wow!
Good for you.
Let's hope the other bidder wasn't bidding for his kids...
I've always been of the opinion that the proper coin/life balance is 100/100.
But ... I may be a little off base, so it could actually be 101/100.

I've done my fair share of arranging my schedule to be online for auctions, whether it is on my phone or a computer. It's inconvenient more than anything else.
For fixed end auctions, a sniping service is great for getting back some coin/life balance.
For rolling end auctions, I’ve given up on being online for the end. For sites like Heritage and Stacks it can be hard for me to know if I won even after the hammer. For these, I just fire and forget now.
May I see it?
Finding coin/life balance is an important goal.

Here it is. Maybe you've already seen it another recent thread. I was sitting on Sunset Beach along the North Shore of Oahu when the lot came up. At the time I was a blast-white Peace dollar junkie but a coin like this.... well, they just don't come along all that often. Great memory.
For many of us, this advice is too little too late. Might as well buy the coins at this point.
