After attending the February Long Beach show and seeing the shipwreck exhibit, I figured maybe one day I'd get one of those coins in my collection, the first wave of recoveries or the second one. This one came from the second recovery. I think the story behind this 1855 $1 gold coin and all the other objects is pretty neat. I imagine coin spending all its century plus time counting fish from the ocean floor, waiting to be found one day. So here it is, very happy with this acquisition.
The front part of the case:
The reverse:
A decent example of a type 2 $1 gold, not bad for being in salt water all this time:
The gold pinch that came with it:

Very cool piece of history!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Nice. Get ready for coins from the Polaski shipwreck. A group called Endurance Exploration Group recently found it and are brining up some amazing early 1800s gold pieces..
Beautiful part of history .... love the slanted 55
Nice! Here's the trueview
Really in nice condition for all those years under the sea. Thanks for posting.
Congrats, nice gold and nice piece of history.
Many successful BST transactions with dozens of board members, references on request.
Wow! That’s a beautiful coin, especially because it has so much historical significance.. Congratulations on your new purchase!
Thanks for sharing. Curious who at PCGS did the pinching and whether they got the job based on finger size?
Like days of old, bartenders were hired for their index finger and thumb size to maximise the pinch!
Great acquisition. I'd love to own something off that wreck!

If that 1855 gold dollar went to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean in 1857, and was in San Francisco in between, it saw a big slice of 19th Century Life in just a short time. Even if it only made it down to Panama, it saw a lot.
