Coin is defintely PL, hard to tell in the photos due to the lighting. I haven't bought an expensive coin in an old ANACS holder so I am hesitant. It is $350 and I would want it crossed to PCGS since the holder is cracked. Does everything look good including the VAM 38? Hopefully photos are good enough!

I do not think it will cross at 63...The dings on the obverse and wear on the eagle will likely drop it a grade... Cheers, RickO

Are you questioning if it is in fact a Vam 38? From the pictures you provided it does appear that it does have all of the doubling and therefore is attributed correctly. Vam 38 is NOT on the 100, 50 or 40 lists though. You might want to check and see if they will even put it on the holder if that is a concern. Good luck! :)

You'd have to call PCGS and confirm they even attribute a VAM 38. There are many they don't. I think the coin itself gets to MS 63 at PCGS. I'd submit it as a new coin in an Economy Submission if the holder it's in is cracked to the point of being ruined. The costs otherwise are too great.

If you do what you always did, you get what you always got.

$350 is a fair price if it crosses at grade (and PL). The VAM is not going to add any value so I wouldn’t even bother having it attributed. If it isn’t Top 100 it isn’t free.
