Stackers for end times, Why sovereign mints vs commercial mints

Generally when silver goes up or down both silver rounds and eagles/maples do the same. So why put your money in Eagles or Maples or other types like it vs plain rounds? i.e. when saving silver not numismatic value coinage?

For end times, gold will not matter as much as food, water, self-defense, shelter, etc. until the end closes in.

I believe most stackers here look at PMs as protection (insurance, hedge against the dollar) from inflation and dollar devaluation. As such they have valid concerns about the future sellability of their PMs. They know most buyers will have the same concerns about the quality of the product that they had when they purchased. This is one of the reasons why premiums vary from product to product.

  • I do not disagree with your points. Food/water/shelter/security all come first. I have seen over the past couple years some silver rounds for sale, that might pass as silver eagles to the uneducated. These using same symbols and similar embossed words implying US Government when they are only minted in the US by commercial mints. So prudent buyer would test the silver before buying as its the only way to be sure of what you are getting when trusted sources are no more. i.e. trust yet verify so dont pay a premium. just my thoughts.

Anyone looking to barter with silver eagles or generic rounds better have a plan B .

2 generations of americans don't know what silver is and the internet will be down forever so Siri won't be available to tell them :D

End times? Please clarify. If you mean collapse of the financial system and supply chains such that barter is the only option, I'd say that you should be well-diversified with precious metal, cigarettes, booze, gasoline, water supplies, guns, ammo, clothing, oil lamps, candles and legacy seeds. And muscle. And resolve.

If it comes to that, I doubt that any of the above will matter too much, so faith, family and close friends rank pretty high in the morale dept.

In the precious metals dept., whether it's end times or just challenging times, the point is that you want to be able to verify what you are trading or buying or selling. If you want to become a specialist, learn how to verify any piece of metal, whether it's a coin, round or bar. If you lack the expertise, the easier route is to deal with reliable sources and stay with the products that are most easily verifiable.

Valid points. The thing about not knowing is that if it becomes important, you learn real quick or you lose.

Rounds etc. are not as respected (authenticity wise) as genuine government issue coinage. While I have a few art bars/rounds, my stacks are coins. Cheers, RickO

Good points made. I like junk silver for barter purposes. @Weiss has a good thread on here pointing out the advantages of junk silver (90%)

The face value provides a good backstop, in case the silver metal drastically decreases in value, at least you can spend it.
Private rounds and bars, we're SOL.

I do love the image of the End of Times though, and all the zombies have touchstones to rub the silver on, and a little dropper bottle of acid, and they barter for silver before eating your brain.
