1925-S Buffalo Nickel - Grade? 2 feather or 2.5 feather?

This is a 1925-S Buffalo Nickel with a missing third feather, but has a die chip where the feather should be. It doesn’t seem like the die chip matches where the feather should be very well. Would this qualify as a two-feather coin or a 2.5 feather? Also, what is your opinion on grade? I paid $6.75.

It sure appears to show the smallest remnant of a feather tip. I hope it is only 2 cause I have a similar. I'm going to dig it out. Peace Roy

    Fine details, possible environmental damage.
Date seems unusually strong to me for some reason.
I’ll let the experts comment on the feathers.

If any portion of the feather is visible, it is a 2 1/2 feather variety.

Well said, Pete. You took the words right outta my mouth. AD400, my friend Alain is well informed on the two feather varieties and so is Ron Pope both on this forum .

I have one similar to that.... maybe a tad more on the feather....never thought it would get the 2.5 designation....so I just keep it with the herd. Cheers, RickO

Like Pete and Joe say-2 1/2 feathers. There are 2 or 3 '25-S dies that are completely effaced, tho.

Here's two different of those completely effaced dies.

Here's one I picked up recently. I believe the OP's coin would be slabbed as the variety but wouldn't be worth it financially.

    That's a nice one!

Thank you for your help. It seems to have mild environmental damage, which is unfortunate because looking at pictures of graded 25-S I would say this coin has VF details. The price was certainly right and it’s a nice coin IMO.

Since there is a little “crumb” of the small feather showing I would call it 2 and 1/2 feathers.
    I would grade xf45.
