Anyone going to the Buena Park Coin Show this weekend?

SiriusBlackSiriusBlack Posts: 1,120 ✭✭✭✭✭

I've never been to a coin show before and this one is about 30 minutes away so I think I might give it a try. I work Saturday's but hopefully enough people still show up on Sunday mornings. I have no idea what to expect!

I will be there! Hopefully there will be many attending.

Always buying nice toned coins! Searching for a low grade 1873 Arrows DDO Dime and 1842-O Small Date Quarter.

I'm hyped to go, particularly since I missed the last Long Beach.

Buena Park is a good show! A little crowded, since the room is just a little too small. So, leave the backpack at home, and prepare to dodge chairs. ;)

Although I usually go Saturday, I'm sure Sunday will still be hopping. It's not the "big national" show, where everyone has been there for a week already, and itchin' to get home when the auction is over. These are local/regional dealers who make their money dealing with Joe Q. Public, (you and me!), and plan to be there the entire time!

Please do post a show report... Since you have never been to a coin show before, your impressions will be especially interesting. Cheers, RickO

I always try to go to that show. I have been able to pick up some really nice coins and tokens there.
But lately I have been missing it. It really is a great show, small but very nice.
I know I can’t make it today but I’ll try for tomorrow

If anyone makes it tomorrow, I'll be the Harry Potter nerd in a Slytherin shirt :D

I'm just back from the show. The usual suspects, as far as dealers. Crowded aisles, as expected! But knowing that going in, it's easy to deal with. Just don't be in a hurry, and stand aside when you have to. (I could have done without the couple with the baby in a stroller, however.

    My Coin Purchase Story:

Whenever I go to a coin show, I ask the wife on the way out the door if she wants anything. It's a joke....she has no interest in coins at all. But sometimes, she will answer, "Bring me a coin with a cat on it!"

Since I'm working on buying a mini-set of "Commems that I like", I've been looking for a Vermont. Normally, that issue might not make the short list of "Commems that I like".....But it has a CAT on it! And today, being our 11th anniversary, the wife got a coin with a cat on it. :)

A rather nice looking MS-64, bought from one of my favorite dealers. That, and an upgrade to my 1945s Walker made for a rather nice show.

Hope you guys have fun tomorrow, if you make it!

@TommyType That's awesome! I think I'm going to be looking for Lincoln's either toned and slabbed for my registry set, or raw to put in my Dansco album.

Suggest you check out "The Penny Lady", then! Back right corner of the floor, near the concessions window.

In fact, you have a chance to do what I like to do with some dealers before a show: Preview the selections on their website!

Sweet! I was hoping she would be there! I thought I remembered seeing her calendar say she was, but then when I checked yesterday, it wasn't blocked off. I'll definitely have to stop by her table then!

Funny that TT mentioned a baby stroller getting in the way. I thought the same about the old people with their walker/chair contraption blocking the aisles too. :D

At least the folks with the walker were probably collectors! I don't think the baby was doing any cherry picking. :)

The show was very crowded today, lots of traffic. The parking lot was completely full due to another event at the hall, but that didn't deter folks from coming to the show. It's a great show, probably about 50 dealers, with door prizes every hour. Sunday is much more relaxed, less traffic, and one of the few shows where all the dealers stay most of the day!

By the way, sorry the show wasn't on my calendar, I need to update it!

About 100 miles away. I hope you have a great time. I wanted to try to get down there but anxiety and traffic overruled. Got pics?

@Aspie_Rocco I’m going to update the first post. No photos except for the Lincoln’s I got. I should have taken more photos! :(
