On line coin rolls

I was a bit slow on figuring out that all the rolls I bought had been put together and I would not find anything special. I was curious to know where are some good places to find good coins. And people not trying to rape me

    Banks used to have rolls.

I get rolls from the bank. They're circulated and mostly newer but I get the occasional wheat cent

I buy rolls and bags from banks, credit unions, and a casino. I bribe tellers with candy.

Wish I knew the answer to that question... IMO the best bet is to order a box of half dollars from the bank if you don't mind tying up $500 for a while. Even better would be to buy the bag from their coin counter, but not all banks will allow this as far as I know.

You need to define "good coins".

If you are buying rolls online you will get what you pay for. For example, If you pay for cent rolls with all wheaties then you will get that (but no rarities). If you get rolls from the bank then you will get a lot of modern stuff but also there is the tiny chance of a stray rarity.

What specifically are you looking for?

When I used to roll search I would try to visit banks when they were slow. I would briefly explain I’m looking for rolls of coins etc. and ask if they would sell me coins, if they had any weird coins or rolls brought in by customers.

Some tellers are happy to help, some refuse, it is trial and error. When you find a good friendly bank that plays along, see if they want your left overs back. This can help as some banks do not take rolled coin or loose coin, and some are stingy with coins because they have to pay to get them. Some want them back and that helps maintain a good working relationship.

In my experience, when ever I ordered a $500 box of half dollars, there was usually nothing special as they came direct from bank supplier. Rolls from customers are where the goodies usually come from.

I probably would not and do not ever buy rolls from online unless they are OBW original bank wrapped new and all same date/mint. And only then because we don’t generally get Philadelphia coins here in California.

Since I've just started collecting I have 1cent, Indian Head, wheat back, and Canadian 1 cent Jefferson nickels, starting on quarters and half dollars, euros, German and also paper money. Budget tight at times, but been a occasion I tossed the budget out the window.
Coins and bills hunting and collecting is very addictive 😁😂

You will not find rarities searching any rolls. You might occasionally find a variety, but it'll be a modern variety, not a 55 DDO.

you can find the occasional oddity or obsolete coin, but you will mostly be building a collection of junk.

There's nothing wrong with that. Your cost is low. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters. But be realistic about what you're doing.

Roll searching can be rewarding... and is fun...I have searched literally hundreds of rolls of halves, and only found one Walker.... and no silver...So can also be frustrating. Getting rolls from the bank (ask for rolls brought in by customers) is usually the best bet. Cheers, RickO

Roll sellers have already picked thru them for the most part.

Years ago at a show I had no sooner bought 2 really nice BU rolls of 1958 and 1958-D halves than people wanted look thru them. I told them “they are for a customer” to block this then hid them in a bag bank - later after the show I selected some for slabbing the rest to retail as ch bu singles at cost plus. No way was I going to give them away to a picker.

Pickers are like roaches leave something sweet out they are all over it.

Maybe I misunderstood, it would not be the first time but

Not sure why people who like to hand pick their own coins are being compared to roaches here...

Perhaps I don’t know enough to speak on the subject.

I have not ever been to a show, but if I ever go I sure would not want to buy something from a person who thought of me as a roach, because I like quality coins and varieties.

Of course I cannot speak for anyone, but I don't think he meant it in a bad or mean way.

A non-silver Walker has to be extremely valuable!

A few years back ( 9), I went into my bank and asked if they had any rolls of halves. I had to practically browbeat the teller to sell me all she had. She just didn't understand I wanted all of them. $3700.00 in halves. 53 full silver and 147 40% kennedys. When I brought them back to cash in a few days later, I had to call the manager to get them to accept my deposit. If you are looking for rolls, I ask rolls of what. I have some wheats, some state quarters mint rolls and some mint rolls of 5c.
