    I always thought it was Promontory Point rather than Promontory Summit. I guess both names were used.

    There were four spikes that were "ceremonial" and one was 60% gold, one was a wooded spike made from a nearby laurel tree that was gold plated. The other two, I don't know.

    Struck by the Philadelphia Mint in several metal/size combinations. Not rare, but a cool design.

    Cool medal. I visited Promontory Summit in 1990. They brought out two replica locomotives just like in 1869. It was way cool!
