It does look heavily buffed to me. IMO. I have a few that were inserts in tchachskis I found. Peace Roy

Cleaned, polished, grade around VG-10 with a full date, which is unusual, but not rare. The obverse looks F-12.

Yes, polished. Good assessment.
Yes, it has been buffed or polished. I have owned two keychains that housed Buffalo nickels in the fob portion and both nickels ended up looking like that one after a few years. Therefore, I could easily believe that this spent time in a keychain.

Guess you should just call this coin a “buffed-a-lo” nickel.
