Chris Davis sets record for lowest batting average in history.

Orioles have benched him for remainder of year. Finishes with .168 batting average
with over 502 appearances, which is lowest in history.

My abbreviated take on this. It simply means somewhere down the road Dallasactuary
will argue Chris Davis had a better year in 2018 than Ted Williams in 1941.

I have to look up Ray Oyler...

I suspect that Ray was below a minimum number of at bats (215) when he his a blistering .135 in 1968 in for the World Champion Tigers.

Following year he hit .164 in 255 appearances.

Nonetheless, next to Gates Brown, he was my favorite player on the 68' team.

All that money the O's threw at him and look what he threw back. A crappy, miserable season.

The year before he signed the big contract, he hit .196. Baltimore knew what they were getting.

With mores like that, no wonder the O's were the worst team in baseball. Who was the GM? Rueben Ammero, Jr.?

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

But he did hit 53 HR the year before the .196. He also hit 47 HR the year after the .196 and 38 HR the following year. A modern day Dave Kingman.

Shall we now start to call .170 the Davis Line? Makes the Mendoza line seem all star level.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

seems Joey Gallo is going down the same path

And Khris Davis has hit .247 4 years in a row. Now that's a crazy stat.

Current issue of SI has an article on Davis and his struggles. Feel bad for him.
