Resubmit or Not?

So a while back I had a coin that I had submitted, but it came back as questionable color. I have over the last year looked at many in store and online and I am not seeing what the examiners are seeing. Can someone fill me in on what may be coming into question with this coin? I'm not bitter but just want to understand better for future submissions. It is not worth it to probably send it in again but has anyone ever had a coin that was passed on the second attempt? My local coin dealer said I should resubmit it.

What does the reverse look like? I see no issues with the obverse from that picture.

That's not a scratch in the field under the T is it? I assume on the capsule.
    I would resubmit.

It must be the photo. I do not see a scratch looking there. But this was not sent back as genuine, it was sent back for color.

First it's impossible to say for sure from a single pic, that said I don't really see anything that jumps out at me. Perhaps in hand I would have a different opinion. Something to consider is that graders are influenced by the total submission If you had others in the group that were bagged, or this was the only red piece, or a very small batch. all of these and more could be a factor in the result. Many successful submitters have a method of setting up a submission; maybe that helps; maybe not.

Copper color is difficult to judge from photos. They have to be seen in person. Don't throw good money after bad. Just sell it as is and move on.

Based on the pictures, with the usual caution, I would not agree that is 'questionable color'. I have seen cents in slabs that I would say are highly questionable. Re-submission is up to you. Let us know what you decide. Cheers, RickO

When I sent it in it was with two other proof IHC that scored 64 RB and 64 RD. I did have one commemorative that was marked cleaned in the group of ten coins. So could you expand on what might be a better way to group submissions coinbuf?

Looks like a very nice coin to me.

I submitted a 1909 Matte Proof to PCGS that looked like that many years ago. It came back in a body bag with the notation "Pf-63 - questionable color".

I think - but have no solid proof - that a lot of 1909 coins were recolored at one point, making the TPG's a little suspicious of them.

Graders are people and can be affected by what they see and also what they don't see. I know that graders have access to a great wealth of knowledge and resources to make these calls but consider two scenarios. First lets assume that the coin has not been messed with and you submit it along with 2 or 3 others of the same date (a close date can work for many 30's and 40's dates) and with a similar look, this gives the grader an opportunity to see the coin along with others of the same date and look. And if those other 2 or 3 pass then it's a safe bet that this one would also. In your case it sounds like this was the only Lincoln in the submission thus only one data point for the graders, it's easier for the human mind to doubt an outlier than a group. Graders are human beings and; regardless of training and skill; are subject to the tricks our minds play on us. Overall graders get it right more than they are wrong so it could be that this coin has been messed with at some time past; as I said pics are very hard to judge as lighting and angle can change a coin's look.

They do not like splotches of purple (and it looks like yours has some on reverse)
I would not resubmit .. the obverse has areas with shades of pumpkin orange, which gets it 'cleaned'

The last cent I had with 'questionable color' with more purple than yours

I am a one time guy. (Submitting) I suppose I might be swayed, on occasion, to resubmit . I did not see the one which gives you cold feet , but your '09 looks good.
