Looks like a DDO to me. Nice pick.

No expert, but sure look like it............God?
Looks to me like a very severe form of MDD (Machine Doubling Damage). While the doubling does show split serifs on some of the letters, the doubling is still too flat and shelf-like (the "D" for example) in my opinion to qualify for a true Doubled Die.
Interesting coin. Is there doubling anywhere else of note?
Pete
It does look like a DDO in those pictures.... However, @BuffaloIronTail makes a good observation...Perhaps some other pictures could help.... plus a full picture of the coin.
@cherrypickerrrrr .... Welcome aboard.... Cheers, RickO
Here's another....
It wasn't until a later post that the date was revealed. That is the first thing that should be mentioned so it can be determined if a DD is known for that year/mint.
You should not be blindly looking for DDs. It is an infinitely better use of your time to search for DDs on years known to have them.
You obviously have a good eye to have noticed the doubling, but focus is also needed.
JMHO.
Yes, it is a 1976-D bicentennial quarter with a known rare/scarce double die. FS-101.
It is not that variety. I agree with Pete-extreme and rather unusual machine doubling.
Regardless of the nature of the doubling. I'd say it's a keeper. It's quite interesting.
I don't think so. The lighting is playing tricks on your eyes (and mine). I think circulation wear also contributes to the faux doubling.
I agree with a few of the other posters. This "looks" like a DDO, but I think it's a deceptive machine doubling. An in hand examination or sharper images of "GOD WE" would certainly help in clearing it up. If you notice the "IN" appears to have the typical wrap around shelf like doubling of machine doubling. The "GOD WE" certainly looks like a true doubled die, but it's too difficult to make out the separation to declare one way or another.
With it being a 1976-D, if it did turn out to be a DDO, it would be a HUGE discovery. Separation like that going unnoticed on a coin that was collected like mad back in it's hay day would indicate an extremely low population.
There are currently two different doubled die obverses known for the 1976-D. Images can be found here-http://varietyvista.com/09b WQ Vol 2/DDOs 1976-D.htm

It is a keeper, regardless of what it is called. If you look closely at the "D", the secondary image looks like it has been "torn" away from the primary "D".
See the stretch lines emanating from the second image? I'm still not convinced and lean toward MDD.
Send it to somebody for authentication.
Pete
It could be a new discovery. Send it in for conformation. And good luck!
I agree that it looks like machine double but would like to see straight picture front & back. Nice find.
