Do you think this is a counterfeit bust half? No sign of denticles at all.

Plus it wouldn’t be crazy, bc I got other counterfeits in the same batch where this came from.

Edges ground down? First impression is that it looks genuine.
I don't know. Except...the "PLURIBUS" on the reverse is struck so strongly that it IS unusual for that date. 1831. If it's genuine or not I'd buy it. I'm always looking for 1831 Capped Bust Half dollars with a STRONG MOTTO!
Real. Edited to add (real looking).

I like it. It's a very odd specimen. The weak impression on the Denticles translated to a strong impression on the reverse motto.......somehow. O.K., experts, tell me I'm wrong. Won't be the first time. And I don't care. I like it!
Genuine. It's a late die state O.116.
Lance.
Yes, Lance. I agree. Late die state. If you say 0-116 that's good enough for me but I've got Glen Peterson's book on my lap right now checking it out. It's all fun!
Late die state 116 but clearly genuine imho.
Looks genuine... it seems you can see a trace of the denticles around nine o'clock on the obverse....Cheers, RickO
My gut is that it's genuine.

So the worn out dies lose their ability to adequately impress the planchet all around the edge?

It looks genuine to me, look at 1831 half bust dye types
When the dies wear out, the die spreads, along with images. It is most pronounced at the edge, where the lettering and denticles usually are. This is a classic example of a piece struck on dies that should have been retired long ago. It is amazing that they didn't crack before this.
Several varieties of CBH's show little to no dentils in advanced die states.
Awesome thread! I love this sort of education. ..

Genuine but from very worn dies. Look at the way the stars are extending into the rims.
Ya see....denticles came separately on some of these early half dollars. You had to put them on yourself; and that's how some got misplaced. Ummm yeppers....
Interesting and informative thread.
Ty everyone
looks good to me.
