Hi everyone

Up to a few months ago, I didn't even know this item existed. I just got it in the mail (in OK shape but great price)

"Charm Day" - May 14th, 1967 - Yankee Stadium

As promoted in the 1967 Yankees official program and scorecard, "Charm Day" was set for Mother's Day - May 14th.
"Children can see to it that Mom is the recipient of a Yankee Stadium gift."

The Charm day pendants - made by L. G. Balfour Co., Attleboro, MA (ring and WS pin makers e.g.) were packed in small gift boxes - intended to be put on a charm bracelet (some call it a pendant) - every mom attending received one.

Here's the pin/pendant:

Here's where it gets interesting.

In the 7th inning (7) - Mickey Mantle hit his 500th Home Run against Orioles' pitcher Stu Miller!

So, now, this becomes a "true" Yankee Stadium giveaway collectible IMO.

For Mantles 500th HR amazing the game was not a sell out (witness the empty seats in RF). Neither was the Maris game when he hit his 61st. Nice charm.

    That is a nice collectible.

It's amazing the power that Mantle had shown in the video.

I mean he's moving out there like a 60 year old, he swings at and tries to pull a pitch outside, and knocks it out of the park like he's using a fungo bat.

Anybody else tries that, and it's usually at best a pop-up to an infielder.

    Thanx guys.

My whole thing was that I like collecting "odd" items of the Mick.

I started a thread on it but can't find it - perhaps I'll revisit the topic down the road?

As said - neither did I - found it by accident.

It came in a plastic box as per Tim but it also came with a cardboard sleeve - getting it with both sleeve and box commands a premium that I don't need since I'm displaying the charm with other oddball Mantle stuff.

Mike love these oddball types of things! Very Cool.
The thing that always amazes me about early footage from the 70's
and earlier is how bad the pitchers stuff was if they weren't an All
Star caliber pitcher. This is coming from a 60 year old by the way.
Now just about everybody in the pen has stuff better than maybe
all but the number 1 & 2 pitchers back then. Watching the game for
50+ years you really notice the change in the pitching game.

As a kid growing up in Brooklyn in the 1950's and 60's, I loved to fill out my lineup during school and fantasize about how the game was going to go that day. Listening to Mel Allen and Red Barber on the radio. It's outahere! Peace Roy
