One Small Step Forward with a Bust Half Dollar from the ANA

I thought I might share a coin I fell in love with at the ANA. After careful evaluation, technical assesment with a loop and deciding she had show-stopper eye appeal at arms length, I thought it was one of the best technical superb gem halves I've seen. Especially for the 1807 to 1822 period. Required quite a stretch to land her. PCGS agreed to add a cherry on top with a plus sign. So now the Finest Known 1822 half as PCGS MS67+ CAC Pop 1/0 and the fourth 67+ ever graded amongst any year of the Capped Bust Half series. It's getting really tough out there, this was only the second upgrade to my date set this year.
And a thanks to Bill Shamhardt for the opportunity.

Wow! How is a coin like that even possible?
That is gorgeous.
Absolutely stunning!
And quite deserving of the grade, too!
Love the toning...adds so much to its eye appeal!

It just blows my mind that a coin could survive essentially unblemished since 1822. Just think of everything that has happened since then!
Very nice.
Any idea of the provenance behind the finest known 1822 bust half?
Dave
Fantastic coin!! Congrats on snagging a Shamwow

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Yes, I saw that coin in hand at the show. What a wonderful coin. One of the best I have ever seen! Congrats.
Outstanding coin, truly impressive.
Great coin. Too bad the seller was a hostage taker.
The 67+ grade is very for real. Congrats
oh my. That might be the nicest coin I've ever seen. It's perfect

Great coin. I know this has already been posted, do you know the provenance of the coin. It is just amazing that the coin remained in that condition for almost 200 years. I would love to see that coin in hand. Congratulations!
How can you even put a price on that coin? It's mind boggling.
Here is a link to the full-size image. Keep in mind that photos of coins -- especially truly spectacular ones, are rarely as nice as the coins in hand.

Congrats, Chuck. When can I see it in person?

edit: At the 2016 ANA show I was excited to buy the ex-Eliasberg, ex-Link 1822 O.106 in AU58. I love it and would share it here but it would be out of place.
