Feedback on PCGS Shows

HI Folks,
If anyone has gone to the PCGS shows, could you give us some feedback? I am thinking about the LV show in 2 weeks. My question is, is there enough happening to keep me busy for a full day there? I am thinking Thurs afternoon to Friday at noon. My primary reason to go is to bring all of my last NGC coins for crossing (will be several separate orders), but would want to hang at the show as well.
Your comments appreciated if you have been to one of these.

Wow, a real coin nerd! If you can't find something to do here in Vegas, besides coins, I feel for you!!
I think it's worth it. Check for real cheap flights, book a nice room, bring a friend, enjoy the town!! Food is fabulous, people watching is out of this world, weather is great, and if you want to make a wager or two, come on down!

I go to Vegas every year for extended vacations (love the Red Rocks and the surrounding outdoor activities) and know the strip and everything else to do in LV (looking at Janet Air for example ;-)), I am just doing a quick in and out for 2 days, to get something done on the collection side. I just want to know if there is enough activity going on at the show after I turn in my submissions. My real LV vacation will be in November when I bring my wife and we climb them red rocks........

Wow, no feedback on the PCGS shows? No one goes to these? Comments from attendees appreciated.

I’ll see ya there. Maybe we can hang out
I attended just one. Mostly to get a special coin graded.
There were roughly 12 tables. Several were attended (no one around the others). It was very sparse...quiet. The collectors and dealers I talked to were all warm and friendly.
PCGS catered lunch. Excellent food. And snacks throughout the day.
Lance.
Hey, it's Vegas... even if the show is dead, there is plenty to do....and I see posts here on the forum that always say the food is great. Cheers, RickO
I have been to three shows in Vegas, here is my experience. If your main focus is to cross your NGC items, doesn't really matter when you go as long as PCGS is accepting submissions (assuming you don't want show crossover). If it is also important for you to work with dealers and see inventory, then go the first day. It can clear out quickly. Also, some dealers that were to come end up not coming because of unforeseen circumstances. So if you really want to see one dealer, confirm that they are going just before the show. Uncrowded in general and the food is good.
SH,
I was going to post this back in May but had second thoughts (If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all.)
For what it's worth here's my experience with the one and only one I attended. While on a short vacation in New Orleans in May of this year I thought it would be fun to check out the Members Only show at Harrah's. Lots of eye candy to look at with no one breathing down your neck, some really special auction lots that I would probably never get to see again in person in my lifetime and a free New Orleans buffet lunch, maybe even meet a few forum members.
What could possibly go wrong, right? Silly me, I wrongly assumed that if I were a member of this forum and had a few PCGS Registry Sets I would be able to attend. Little did I know you had to be a paid member of the "Collectors Club". I had been a paid member several times over the years when I had coins I wanted to submit but my current membership had expired a couple of years ago. My bad but for some strange reason I assumed, (don't ever assume anything), that if I had Registry Sets, participated in this forum, receive the annual calendar along with a free subscription to The Rare Coin Market Review and got invited to the Registry Luncheons at FUN and the ANA Convention that I was a non-paying member of the Collectors Club without submission rights. (Kind of like ATS).
Anyway, I approached the registration desk and after they looked up my name in their files I was told I couldn't attend because I wasn't a paid member. I walked away feeling sort of depressed thinking to myself that I was glad I didn't make the trip just for the show. I sat down at a table in the reception area, sulked for a few minutes and decided to go back, be real nice and see if I could get the girls at registration to feel sorry for me. Long story short they agreed to let me go in this one time and I could decide when I came out if I wanted to join.
I entered the room and proceeded to one of the tables. While standing there a to remain unnamed dealer came up and began spouting profanities to a employee or partner with me standing there , "f" this, "f" that, who the "f" does he think he is, etc., etc.,. It would have made a sailor blush, I was embarrassed and felt sorry for the employee/partner? who either needed their job very badly or wasn't upset being talked to that way. I was really upset, left the room and actually thought for a minute why was I even interested in collecting coins. Maybe I was over reacting a little but for some strange reason I was really upset. I thought why would this well respected dealer talk this way and why would others choose to do business with them. I finally came to my senses, sort of, thought this is dumb and went back in to check out the other tables. I was in a fog, walked the floor without talking to anyone or looking at a single coin, walked out and left.
Aren't you glad you asked!
The good new is I walked from there to the World War II Museum where I spent the rest of the day until they closed. If in New Orleans make sure you find the time to go there.
PS: I still collect coins

I have been to one PCGS Members Only Show and that was at Dallas, TX, last year or year before. Lance ( @lkeigwin ) pretty much nailed the show that I went to; very few tables, mostly high-brow stuff...a very intimate setting...the lunch was very good. Vegas has always been a good time...all both times I have been there...not for PCGS though.

Living in Las Vegas, I've been to many of the shows. They are all good but, yes, the first day is the best by far. More dealers at the tables (not gambling tables), etc. 2nd day is a hit and miss as some dealers are there and a lot not. Perhaps if you spend the day you will see most of them sometime during the day. There are places to sit and visit and eat so spending the whole day is not a problem. Fridays are a real hit and miss as some are packed and gone and some packing and going. Sat's are just for coin pick ups only as dealers will be on their way home.
Hope that helps.

PS: be safe climbing those red rocks!!
I've attended a few of them, and I've pretty much enjoyed every one of them, In fact the next one (Cosmo on 09/26) has a cocktail party invitation with it. After looking at my airline points and available times, I decided to jump, so i will be there!
Like others have said, the 'show' is more like a small gathering of dealers and fellow coin nerds, but the atmosphere is relaxed. I've gotten some really cool coins at these shows that I don't think I would have found at a major show. The free food is great and the day does fly by if you just want to talk coins.
It's also fun to run into forum and Instagram members! I will be there only Wednesday for this one.

I went to 2 of them so far. I had a good time and did a good amount of business as well. I would try to get there as early as possible - (Wednesday) and leave Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. There is a 2 day auction at this show, and between the auction and the bourse floor, there will be plenty to do to fill the day.

Thanks everyone for the info, love to chat with you if I get to go to this one Joe but we better keep it coins.

PS, it might be just as useful for me to just go directly to PCGS in CA instead (?), I just don't want to ship this batch in one go, so am weighing the options. Ricko, yup it is Vegas, but the fun parts of LV are not as fun if I don't have my wife with me, and we will be there for Thanksgiving, already booked our restaurants etc. for that stay.

Zero chance it will hold your interest for more then an hour buying wise . Just not enough material. However, I’ve loved every show I’ve attended. It’s really not a show but more of a gathering with grading going on. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a coin at one of these events. The auction is fun.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
PCGS doesn’t allow you to drop off coins for submission at their facility. But they do have a drop off in October at a nearby hotel. It’s on their website.
Cool. Have you done Levitation 29? I did most of it in Nov. 1987 but have not been back.
I'm already in Vegas several times each year working. After 30 years, it gets really old.
I was there once when this show was going on but passed because of the number of tables.
Not enough to keep me busy for long. Probably missed a few friends to chat with.
Yos - when I say 'climb them red rocks', er ah I actually mean 'hike up the trails'. We see the climbers head out to the cliffs tho' if that counts

12 tables!! They call that a show??!! I figured LV show would be fairly large and always wanted to go to one. If for no other reason just to meet Joe the CrazyHoundDog man!
I have no interest in Vegas it's self.
The show is usually a nice time, but like Mark said it’s more of a gathering than actual show. Several of the dealers have coins in cases, some you have to look through boxes and some aren’t there to sell at all(just submitting coins). I live here in Vegas so I usually try and make it. But I agree it will be tough to spend a whole day. I thought I saw a notice that along with the current Legend auction they had a special event with the 1804 dollar. You might want to see if that is going on this time. I believe you had to be a registered bidder and rsvp.
