No. The information is here.
No, the forum needs a "I have a coin that I think/believe/have been told is very very valuable board". The old "What's it worth?" question.
Just cut to the chase.
I’ve only been here since June. My first post was in the registry set forum, I got a lot of great advice, but I learned quickly that if you want a more rounded discussion, you needed to come here because this is where everyone hangs out. The first page rotates every day or two, not weeks or months.
Rather than a whole forum, I’d think a new sticky thread at the top saying New to coins come here, coin collection 101, or something similar might work better.
I’m a moderator on a photography FB group, and belong to several on there. It’s inevitable, no matter how easy you try to make it for new people, you will NEVER stop all of the “what’s this worth” questions.
As someone that is new, I have to say my experience here so far has been really great! I’ve tried to limit my new discussions and post meaningful things that wouldn’t annoy everyone. 95% of you have been very helpful and accommodating. I’ve made several new friends who I’ve been able to ask specific questions to through PM so I could get an answer with out cluttering up the boards.
You just have to remember, every person here at one point started brand new and had the exact same questions.
I’m still trying to figure out what newp stands for!

I have found that the Q & A forum catches a lot of the new folks.

Make you a deal @SiriusBlack. If you post your newest coin purchase to this thread I'll tell you

Who would they talk with if they were all stuck in a room by themselves ?
Successful transactions with : MICHAELDIXON, Manorcourtman, Bochiman, bolivarshagnasty, AUandAG, onlyroosies, chumley, Weiss, jdimmick, BAJJERFAN, gene1978, TJM965, Smittys, GRANDAM, JTHawaii, mainejoe, softparade, derryb, Ricko
Bad transactions with : nobody to date
What form of hazing would be acceptable and still fun for the long term members?
No. It would unnecessarily segregate new collectors from those they're most likely to want to learn from.
On the other hand, if there were to be one, maybe it should be called "FRESH MEAT!" board.

An open forum would be nice.

Nothing would stop the helpful from participating and educating.
It stands for "new Poll" what else?
Then you end up with forum fragmentation. This is one of the things I'm convinced did in NGC's forums. There were too many of them and traffic was divided up between them.

Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
You mean like BST fragmenting some posters to look there to see if they're interested and distracting them from this category?
I'm not saying yes or no, but the only way a forum like that would work is if new members had to make a specific number of posts before being able to visit the other forums and the established members would have to visit them as mentors until such time.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
No for me. If you don't want to be bothered with their questions, don't read the thread.
No. As much as we try to integrate, we segregate. And what good is division when the idea is to educate.
Maybe not a whole new forum, but perhaps a "sticky" at the top of the forums list for those new to the hobby...
Successful BST transactions with: SilverEagles92; Ahrensdad; Smitty; GregHansen; Lablade; Mercury10c; copperflopper; whatsup; KISHU1; scrapman1077, crispy, canadanz, smallchange, robkool, Mission16, ranshdow, ibzman350, Fallguy, Collectorcoins, SurfinxHI, jwitten, Walkerguy21D, dsessom.
That's excellent advice. Maybe I should do a poll about having post count in the first look list.
No... that would simply reduce the opportunity to learn and limit participation. Cheers, RickO
i would day no. i would tend to think that some would not leave thus not learning anything. sumtin liek that, jmo
No, the hobby needs new $ coming in or prices will keep dropping. Self serving but I wish some youngsters would wade in. Long ago a dealer told me that coin collecting is just a bunch of old men sending packages back and forth in the mail. We need YN's and should encourage them.
I say no.
The hobby needs new collectors. And we should try to be patient as the new collectors learn.
maybe a place for old collectors too, just the ones who live on the Left Coast and are pushing 80
I've been profiled!

I would vote no mainly because new collectors need to read and hear from advanced collectors. Collectively we need to be more understanding and patient with questions and how information is communicated.

That took me a while to figure out, as well...

How would one 'graduate' from the collector's forum to the 'real' forum?

No. This forum gives newbies the access they need to the non-newbies.

Your post are those genuinely want to learn topics.
Keep up with your enthusiasm
I voted no since all collectors should feel welcome here. We all started somewhere and most of us continue to grew in our knowledge as we move along. With that said, I have to agree with BillDugan1959 on his comment. A spot for non-collectors or others who just want advice on somethings worth would be nice.
No. I've been here for just over a year and never asked "What's this worth?" As a Newbie I just jumped in and started learning...there's a lot of information here, things I never knew or considered, people that really know a lot, and some that know nothing but are just starting out. I think I might learn the most from the arguments, er, debates...as I read along finding myself saying , "Wow, he's right, no the other guys right, good point!" Those are like heavyweight boxing matches using coins instead of gloves!!! We've got a good mix of everybody, let's not further fragment it.
You're already there.
The pardon is for tyrants. They like to declare pardons on holidays, such as the birthday of the dictator, or Christ, or the Revolution. Dictators should be encouraged to keep it up. And we should be encouraged to remember that the promiscuous dispensation of clemency is not a sign of political liberality. It is instead one of those valuable, identifying marks of tyranny.
