The pawn shop called
They said gentleman came in wanting to sell a1889-cc Morgan. And would I come by and see if it was real.
No I’m not a coin expert but if you go in and ask if they have coins enough they think you know coins.

Wow, scary, thanks for the heads-up !!!
Yup that's a fake for sure. First thing that doesnt look right to me is the slab insert
HAPPY COLLECTING
Wow... Good thing they "called the expert". That is one bad holder.
Pawn shop owes you some first shots at the good stuff coming in.
Very nice catch. Agree that the shop owes you more than just a "courtesy call."
Too much wear for MS. Bad holder and insert. Grabbed the coin and ran. Pretty funny except he will sell it to someone else. Good catch they do owe you big time.
You think they would at least try to get the font correct on the label.
At least they called and asked you. Some would try to hose the seller only to find out they got hosed instead, Had it happen here several times.
Well he was no gentleman and I'm surprised he let you photograph or scan it. I guess the shop told him it was standard procedure.
Bar code is wrong.
Nice work.
Crazy stuff.
My YouTube Channel
Label especially is way off also.
kudos! that is an awfully scary coin
Nice and fortunate catch. Did the pawn shop owner tell the guy, "Let me call a buddy of mine who's an expert on this stuff?"

Is there a 61+? That seemed odd to me for a red headed stepchild grade
The holder said "fake" slightly before the coin did.
I don't think so. It would be like saying it's a really nice crappy unc.

Too bad she didn't begin the paper work with name and address and then reveal the coin is fake. Here you go police officer.

Very scary
Great catch....and smart pawn shop.... many just take them and suffer the consequences. They must be learning from Pawn Stars.....
I am sure he went right on to another location and tried the same scam. This shows one of the dangers of slabbed coins.... so many will just consider a slabbed coin legitimate, not considering the slab itself may be counterfeit. Cheers, RickO
Awesome! You probably saved the pawn shop $100.00.
In all honesty, not 'very scary' at all.
If we can't spot that as a fake within 30 seconds, then we should pack up our bags and take up a much more safer hobby like birdwatching.

Sure, many on this board would catch it, but your average coin collector would not.
Kind of rare that you see the counterfeiters target such low mint state grades, ennit?
thanks for the heads up on that one
Yes, I totally agree with this.
But.....does this 'average coin collector' have any business at all pursuing expensive coins like this?
