2018 S San Francisco Reverse Proof Block Island quarter PF70 first strike flag

Well total current population 76. I needed the coin, I paid $1500 for it. Do you think I made a mistake or good gamble? I need a support group at the moment.

Are you serious? You stole that coin!
Pics please

From L and C coins off of ebay, stock photo.
30 day refund policy. I have bought many coins from them in the past. Seems Legit.
There are a few other coins of the same grade on eBay right now, with one in auction currently at $1,000 with zero bids and it ends in a day. I’d say you did good unless many other coins of the same grade/date start grading (which might happen).
Always buying nice toned coins! Searching for a low grade 1873 Arrows DDO Dime and 1842-O Small Date Quarter.
eBay item number:163230241674
What Jason is referring to. My son Justin is selling the coin and he tells me the coin he plans to ship to the winning bidder is wonderful quality. Yes, of course it should be!
Wondercoin.
“Do you think I made a mistake or good gamble?”
No comment on that. The coin is available at $1,240 at this very moment. But, I believe that will likely change- either higher or lower- after the various auctions close tomorrow afternoon.
Wondercoin.
No support here friend.
$1,500 for a modern quarter is simply folly. Especially if there are 76 of them out there.
NOTHING, IMO, guarantee's more submissions and higher populations than someone paying $1,500 for a quarter with a total mintage of 200,000.
The name is LEE!
I would love one myself. Repost this in a year or two to really know how this turned out. Not sure any new release from the mint is worth such a high premium. Good luck.
IF you are happy with it, money well spent. If you are unhappy with it, it isn't worth $25.
I think these will be cheaper a year from now. I also think a LOT of coins, including classic type will be cheaper a year from now. But that is neither a reason to buy or to refrain from buying.
If it doesn't make you happy, don't do it. If it does...how do you put a price on happiness?
@adcsarge1....Welcome aboard. It would appear you acquired the coin in what is - at this time - and acceptable price range. However, this often happens with new coins. Likely it will be much cheaper in two years. Best of luck, Cheers, RickO

This statement about the quality of a 70 has been many forum members experience with other issues in PCGS 70.
I bear this in mind when I think about being high dollars for a modern issue that I may want to resell in the future. I would be very particular, myself, about purchasing one of these site unseen and would require a very strong return policy.
Personally I would rather buy a nice bust half dollar.
Curious why you decided you "needed" this specific coin vs so many other choices? Do you collect silver quarters, or modern type coins, or all reverse strike coins?
There are a LOT of great prices on 100 year old classic uncirculated gold now, or if you like modern type coins the palladium proof from the mint is in that price range direct, and it could have more upside from that price than that quarter in my opinion.
If you are sort of "new" to how modern 70's work, you should know the populations WILL increase and often prices drop as a result.

It's impractical for anyone to comment definitively without examining the exact coin, since as you probably realize, coins graded 70 are each different, no two exactly the same, some slightly better than others when scrutinized under magnification. If yours is absolutely premium quality, it might turn out to be an astute purchase. Otherwise maybe a dud. And to me the FS designation is a negative.
I think I would rather have 150 PR-69 block islands, they would make good bonus coins to send to my customers

The population is 79 today, 12 hours after your post. I expect it will be close to 100 by the end of next week.
Sorry to tell you that most gamblers lose in the long run.

I don't personally get involved in condition rarity coins. For that price gold is available, nice old gold. Hopefully this will work out for you.
Depends why you bought it?
Do you love the Coin and enjoy it or do you think it’s going to go somewhere?
Ignore you can afford it and enjoy it then you should be fine.
Its at 84 today, growing daily.
Successful Trades: Swampboy,
They seem to be scanning them into the database this weekend because it just went up to 87.

After the set launched, I watched Ebay for my registry set. All but Block came available as individual BIN $30 00 each, I bought and waited for Block, next day there she was BIN $250.00

I said "who in they're right mind would pay that for that" as I hit the buy it now button. That was $370.00 for the set. The next day a full set (all 5 quarters) was listed for BIN $350.00. I realized then, that I overpaid (by $20.00)..... but at least I had my registry set........ I wonder if these will ever return to $350.00 for the set.
Thanks to one of my main registry set coin sources for offering those coins then! Being first to buy usually keeps me under water, but my registry set current.

This was posted tongue in cheek. $1500 for a modern coin in 70 is ridiculous. There will be many more in no time at all. Look at the '95-W PR70 ASE prices. Dropped like a rock.
A few minutes ago one sold for $1,035, the other just went for $976.

Did you have to bring that up? I will have nightmares again.

Slightly surprised the second Block Is. underperformed the first today by about 6%. It looks like the Coins (for the moment) have “settled in at around $1,000. 33% off the high of last week and about 60% above the high of two weeks ago. I am not terribly surprised. Just my 2 cents. Wondercoin.
Remember when the silver proof Delaware in 70 was $3000. Look at the price guide now.
Smudge...one sold in a Fun Heritage sale for ove4 $15,000 actually! Check out old prices realized.

Personally I would pay the tiniest fraction of that amount for an ungraded coin that I liked. But. you said you "needed" the MS70 coin so you obviously collect differently than I do (registry set?).
The population on that coin is guaranteed to rise. In my humble opinion, the value has no where to go but down.
But if you are happy with it then that is all that matters.
May I suggest using some emoticons to alert others to your sarcasm or dry wit? Some or perhaps even most people won't necessarily get the joke otherwise.
One or more of these will work wonders:

I frequently use them myself for the same reason.
The more that get made, the more likely the "must haves" registry people will get them. That will dampen the "demand" for these. Dampened demand generally equals lower prices.
Add to that a holiday weekend and actual auction style? That does NOT help!
Sellers kinda caught between rock and hard place on these.....the past has shown that, when a modern is hot, you really need to get in quick and sell. High prices don't last all that long. So, the ebay sellers did have to get them out there....just bad luck of timing that it also ended up being the 2nd day of a holiday weekend.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
There is a difference between Rare and Hot. PL Mercury Dimes are rare. PR70 modern coins are not.
The Finn... are 16D Mercs in Mint State rare?
Wondercoin.
Block Island is a great place for a summer day trip on a bike!
There is only one way for the prices to go on these, and that is down. In 4 years they will be $250 to $350 max.
A long time ago the Presidential dollar error coins were hot, and now they are worth next to nothing.
Although the one thing these coins have going for them is the First Strike label. That will hold back a deluge on new graded coins, so may hold the price up for some time.
Reminds of the hype around the PCGS 1st Strike 2006 Reverse Proof Silver Eagle that sold for $5,500+,,,,,now $600..or how about the 2011 Anniv Silver eagle 70s NGC set that sold for $3800....now $625
If you don't mind tossing away money .. you did alright

Wasn't the '95w Silver Eagle PCGS Prf 70 at $55,000 .... several years back
“Wasn't the '95w Silver Eagle PCGS Prf 70 at $55,000 .... several years back”
No.... it was at $86,000.
Wondercoin.
The whole point for those wanting to make money was to get it graded quickly and sell it to those desperate to chase a trend.
Latest sale of Block Island 70 a few minutes ago higher than both Sunday auctions. And, those who sold quickly ($250-$500/coin) wish they hadn’t I suspect.
Wondercoin.
Speaking for one who sold his at $600, I'm happy with the sale. I'm more worried that if they are selling for $300 at the end of the month, my buyers will return the coins.
The guy who paid $1500.00 he should return it that should piss off the seller. I doubt he got the coin yet as he posted this a few days ago. But sounds like he got sucked into the hype. Of course I did NOT say that.
The issue with returning the coin after you realize you paid way too much is that many of the sellers will just ask that it be replaced for like coin and not offer a cash refund.
When I had an issue with the Palladium eagle I returned it to MCM (had a spot) for a replacement (a much better version of a PCGS 70) and was happy.
I remember glad MCM came through I am sure someone else got it.
I just opened a package from them first thing I did was look for milk spots, scratches extra. I think I picked that up that process here.
L and C coins was pretty cool about it, I asked if I could cancel the sale and they did. Ended up getting it for $400 less at MCM.
That reflects well on L and C that they let you out of what became a bad deal.
In a few weeks, adcsarge, you may be wanting another dealer’s pricing. And so on.
adcsarge,
Wow, I am impressed by L&C. doing that. I buy from them and have also had good experiences.
But why did you buy it again so soon, when almost everyone here says it will go down in price? I don't think MCM will be as kind when, or if, this drops to $500.
Why do you like this coin so much? I am just curious.
The reason I bought mine is I that specifically collect modern silver sets and it is in some of them and I enjoy keeping them updated, but I would never pay quite that much premium so soon for a modern coin.
