Was expecting a clip of an idiot taunting a bison.....
They hand these out along with the park map and newsletter...
Of course, it doesn't stop many of the idiots, but hey...
We have a herd of buffalo here in the Black Hills that were transplanted from the Yellowstone herd.
Seriously, one day while working on a European tourist to the area, he asked me what the signs that said “Buffalo are dangaroos’” mean. He really needed clarification. I had to chuckle and still get a kick out of it. Buffalo are dangaroos is how we pronounce the signs from then on. Some people just need the sign with the pictures.
Awesome pix! We went once as a family in the summer of '75, and back again later with friends. Magnificent place, but we didn't see a single animal (other than chipmunks & 1 elk) while there either time - - I believe that was when the Park Service was trying to keep them in the back-country & away from overzealous tourists. But we did stay at the lodge, and had a great time walking & driving to all the sights! Still would like to get back out there with my wife & sons one day.
And while out there, don't forget to swing thru Jackson Hole & the Tetons! Spectacular views there as well!
My wife and I took our first trip there in 2005. We were so addicted, Yellowstone was our yearly vacation for the following 3 years. '05-'07 we flew into Jackson Hole, then drove through Grand Teton to the park. Those 3 years we went the last week of May. The day after Christmas 2007, my oldest son was born. We waited until September (for the elk rut) 2008, took a 2 week vacation, and drove from South Carolina with our 9 month old. We didn't have a digital video camera at the time, but I have a cassette video of #6, a massive we'll know bull elk before he died, breeding a cow in Mammoth.
The economy crashed, and we haven't been able to go since. My wife swears to me she will take my ashes and dump me off the overlook of the falls. I hope I get into a trout, the trout gets eaten by a Grizz, he does his business on a sapling, and I grow for eternity there.
It is the greatest place on earth! Thank you all for reminding me! Sorry I couldn't post a Buffalo. Mine are all worn, lol!
