Low Ball Ike PCGS Set

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,544 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am starting over from a project I started 15 years ago: attempting to find all these dates in the short lived series of Ike dollar in ultra low- problem free grade. Here is the beginning of the set! It's a challenge to find these so I suspect it'll be awile before I even reach the half-way point.

What do you mean by "starting over"? Did you sell a previous collection?

I remember you championing lowball coins before there was a lowball set. Way to go, trendsetter!

One good thing is you can make your own (in time)...

I would wager the 77's and 78's are going to be very elusive.
    Not so much 71-72.

The number one Registry for these has some true outstanding coins. Many are pop ones! Is that registry set owner a member here? "LOW Hanging Fruit" is the name of the set. The other top lowball sets are simply amazing too! It would be fun to PM.

So, tell us how and where you acquired the first 2. Sounds like the beginning of an interesting adventure. Peace Roy

I still don't "get" lowball sets.
Not that there's anything wrong with them. ;)

The 71-P I picked off of eBay recently and the 71-D was a return on a recent submission (the one that included "Black Eye Peace").

This one is scarce and low pop. Don't think it would grade though with rim damage ha !

    :)

I was waiting for you to pull that one back up, Pat. I remember people's comments and then you basically putting out the ol' "put up or shut up" bit, and I don't recall anyone being able/willing to take you up on it.

In addition to the 1971/1972 coins, I would think the 1976 ones may be found at some time...they seemed to get fair circulation from many I had. none that I think would be P01 though and, sadly, I got rid of all those about 10-15 years ago (I was getting bags from the banks whenever they had them, and going through them, and then spending at casinos and such....kept roughly $500, but those were higher grade raws)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Three of these I paid face value raw at my local coin shop and submitted.

My images doesn't show the perfect grey color they have.

Sweet! Your AG03 1971-D looks more like PO1/FA2 to me! Thanks for sharing.
