Trueview submission question

dmwestdmwest Posts: 959 ✭✭✭✭

I have a PCGS graded coin, but want trueviews. Do I send it in and mark reholder & trueviews?

Don't quote me on that.

Yes. I've done so several times. Your coins will retain their cert number. The trueviews are nice to have.

Have it reholdered in a Gold Shield holder. It is $5 more, but you save the cost of the TrueView as it comes free with the Gold Sheild.

It is great that they offer this now with Gold Shield service. Eventually, I imagine every coin submitted will be trueviewed, which would be huge for the brand. Imagine high quality photos of everything in a PCGS holder. The "sight unseen" trading that TPGs longed hoped to achieve could come to fruition in a roundabout sort of way, where all you needed was the cert number to "see."
Plus it just makes the hobby more fun to be able to share pleasing images of your coins.

if you don't want to crack the coin for example a doily or a older rattler. you can mark photos only do not crack and they will leave it in the same holder.

I reholder with Gold Shield now, just about every time...just for the photos

Having coins with TruViews is great... I found a few of my coins (purchased in slabs) had TruViews... which I did not know at the time of purchase. Nice surprise...Cheers, RickO

    Is that an option?

I have several coins in older generation PCGS holders with CAC stickers on them. I'd love have true views of the coins, but don't want to have to deal with getting them reholdered and then sent off to CAC for a resticker. They can true view them in their exisiting holder?

Once the set I’m working on is complete I plan on sending everything in to get reholdered in Gold Shield for the pics and matching slabs

I just asked PCGS that last week. Actually got 3 responses from 3 different people. They all said YES. Just mark on the Submission sheet , PLEASE DO NOT CRACK OUT COIN. IMAGE FROM OUTSIDE.

Unfortunately, they said that you cannot send in old holders under Reconsideration (in the case you want to try and upgrade) and if they do not upgrade, have them TruViewed in the old holder. Apparently they view this as two separate services, which I don't understand why that is.

Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

I don't get that either. Some clerk thought it wasn't possible because a failed reconsideration left the coin holdered, not raw (which is how True Views are normally shot).

I'll bet if you bump the question to a higher authority you'll find PCGS willing to do it. Make a little noise.

That's good info to have! I didn't realize I could send them in for TrueViews without having to reslab and re-CAC. Thank you for the info!
