I just ordered a 100 Oz bar update: it arrived!

I’ve wanted one since I was a young teenager and saw one at a coin show. It’s a RCM .9999 pressed bar from Apmex. $1576 out the door. I can’t wait to get it!

Update. It arrived a few days ago. It’s so much fun to hold!

Wow... that is one big lump of silver. I have not considered one of that size... for accumulation of silver, I have felt that the smaller bars would be more liquid in times of need. Cheers, RickO

They're awesome, as door stops. The walls won't get damaged by the knobs slamming into them. You'll see.

It is pretty impractical for a smaller bullion buyer like me— I only have 82 ounces, now 182, and most will be in this bar. It’s for investment, sure, but mostly for fun.

That's the truth! It's kind of hard to really understand how dense silver (and gold) are until you have a piece like these that are actually a little difficult to move. 100 oz bars weigh about seven pounds. Something about the size of a coke can that weighs about 10 times what a can of coke usually weighs. It'll make the uninitiated's eyes bug out. We're just not used to that density in our daily lives.

If I hadn't picked up most of these many years ago, I probably wouldn't have them. They're awkward, heavy, and not at all ideal as silver investments because you can't sell 10 or 20 ounces at a time.

But they're bad ass. And I like 'em :)

I'm still chasing a USS Constitution 100 ounce bar to finish a set.

I come across one every now and again but as the world turns, the bar and the funds dont line up.

For what it's worth, feel free to click on the big bar image above for a larger version. You can save it as a screen saver if you like.

Looking forward to seeing @kiyote 's bar on a metal porn Friday soon :)

Love those JMs, they look like bricks! My LCS has one, at $1 over though :s

What's fun is lugging around the 1,000 oz. RCM bars. Pushing 70# - something you don't want to drop on your toes.

I have seen this idea a few times over the years on various stacking/pm forums. It reminds me of my grandmother who would use an old metal iron that way.

A buck over isn't all that bad if it's an older poured one. A new one, not so much.

Weiss, I thought I remembered you having a couple of the big JM bars... I was kinda hoping you'd take me up on my trade deal in the BST thread...
I think I remember You saying that you don't have any kilo bars and I am trying to spread awareness for my personal favorite size silver bar.
    2.2 lbs - not bad
Can be held easily with one hand->used as a bludgeoning object if necessary
1000 grams - metric like the rest of the world
Comes in a assortment of shapes and finishes
32.15 Troy oz - a quick way to add ounces!
These things are all the rage with the kids nowadays, <- well maybe not but I like em!

Sorry to thread jack, I know this threads about 100oz bars.. but sadly I don't have a single 100ozer, and no Its not because I lost them in boating accidents!

It's all about what the people want...

Careful with big bars. My co-worker dropped a 100 oz off a shipping cart the other day. A sharp edged englehard and sheared off the end of his toe. No more berkenstocks in the shipping department.

Love it! At this point I only possess 1 ouncers and rolls of junk but certainly can foresee some 100oz doorstops in my future. Congrats.

    Nice!
But, I'd be even more impressed if you had gotten it in Au ;)

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I suppose one must be a bar collector to go for the 100 oz. bars... They are impressive, however, I tend to think in terms of liquidity, and it seems they may be difficult to move. But a collector.... well, we know how collectors 'must have' certain things... ;) Just as my wife asks me "Do you really need another gun?".... Well, no, but I WANT one.... :D Cheers, RickO

  • ashelandasheland Posts: 22,612 ✭✭✭✭✭

Actually @ricko the 100 oz bars are easy to sell at the right shop. They usually come and go quickly.

@asheland....I am surprised, thanks for the information....Cheers, RickO
