Coin Update: "CAC coins bring premiums in Summer FUN Auction"

Looks like CAC is here to stay. Do the older forum members remember when the CAC sticker was considered an unnecessary grading tool? That's not to say many forum members did welcome the idea, but for most it was an acquired taste.
Good article from Coin Update.
"CAC-approved coins lead the way in the official auction by Heritage at the Summer FUN Convention in Orlando on July 12 and 13. Before listing eight examples from the Summer FUN Auction, two sales of CAC coins by GreatCollections are mentioned, as CAC coins fared well in multiple settings this month, not just at the FUN Auction."

There are some on this forum who are not surprised by this...and you can count me among them.
Days before CAC are quite a bit fuzzy, but...thank you for posting this.

Nothing last forever. What will be far more interesting concerns how CAC-stickered coins would be perceived by buyers if the CAC consortium dissolves or if just one person (JA) retires.

Well, since it would then put a complete LIMIT on them and you can damn betcha they would get even more sought.

It was a BRILLIANT concept.
It may have repercussions we don't even want to think about, but that doesn't detract from the brilliance of the concept.
I do not question the CAC concept--it has worked very well for consortium dealer-members, becoming a mainstay of some dealers' business models. Most CAC-stickered coins that I have seen are nice for their grades IMO. Would a CAC sticker, at that point, become more equivalent to a plus grade?

It wasn't that long ago (maybe a few years) most dealers at the shows I attended were laughing at the green beans. They aren't laughing now.
The history of CAC, here on the forum, is interesting to review. Some has been lost when the software was changed, but most is there for those willing to tackle the monumental task of such a review. Initially it was reviled, questioned, praised by some and, to this day, a topic of never ending debate. Personally, viewing it now, it was a stroke of marketing genius and deserves the highest accolades. Congratulation JA.... and I await the next innovation - and I am reasonably certain there is one coming. Cheers, RickO
In the biotechnology/biomedical industries and in academia, biosafety cabinets (similar to laminar flow hoods) are commonly used, and must be professionally recertified each year. The holders are not gas-tight, so could this (evil) concept be applied to TPG certifications?

Not surprising !!!
As expected!
Remember the days when any thread with "CAC" in the title was deleted?
The green beans don’t make average coins great, they just help identify exceptional ones. Appetites and fads wander around through the years, but by and large the sorts of coins that are presently bean-worthy will still be a nicer subset of coins in 100 years.
In other words, those sorts of coins have always brought a premium and probably always will.
Is forcing another paid "opinion" to make the best money on a coin really helping the hobby or just driving current and potential collectors out of the hobby altogether?
Oh goody goody goody goody.
You just wait a couple years. CAC will make a LOT of people wondering what sauce to put on non stickered coins.
Nope. Try "weeping."

You'll see.
A "sea change" is in motion. A piece of celluloid can make a coin a piece of crap. Well, at least the LACK of one can.
Those were the days...

I remember almost being deleted along with those threads
Hiya Robert!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Howdy, MJ!
Yeah, I was on thin ice, too.
He's baaack!

Ok everyone, take your un-stickerabke dreck and throw it right in the garbage.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
They won't pick it up unless you separate the plastic and put it in the proper bin.
