Strange coloring on my 1993 ASE-Just sharing

TunisTunis Posts: 515 ✭✭✭✭

My father slowly picked these up throughout the years. Never stored them in any way special way. I shared the 2002 in a previous thread. Working on my photo skills as well so I decided to post it today. The colors are pretty much accurately presented but there are some slight blue tones that I couldn’t pick up.

@tunis, what were the storage conditions? What part of the country, what was the coin in? Sitting in a wooden drawer? etc.

Not really sure. He was buying 1 coin each year for my children. Some were proof coins still in the Mint case, others he just bought from dealer groups. He stored some in plastic circles, some in vinyl flips, and some in generic holders. Most had real strange purple toning on the edges. Some have fingerprints. He did not know much about storage. I posted before that they were also stored in a Crown Royale bag!!!

The velvet from the bag often has an abundance of sulfur. These lend themselves to accepting color also. I've sold proof Eagles for big money with outstanding color so it's not always a negative.

Storage environment is key to tarnish on ASE's....The purity of the silver is very receptive to environmental contaminants. Cheers, RickO
